Good afternoon!
Karen (not pictured) here…popping onto our social media for just a second so I can introduce you to, and sing the praises of, the fabulous woman in this photo.
Meet our Gallery Director, Monica Pirie!

Monica just finished curating a superb fall gallery show and I wanted to give her a special shout-out today because of the incredible work she did with it and the opening reception last week. 👏👏👏
The showroom is looking so beautiful these days and it’s because of Monica’s very talented eye and how she weaves together the works of local artists in a wide variety of mediums. She has quite a gift!
She also has fun and brilliant ideas and she works hard at collaborating with and supporting our local arts community. 💜
(Also, for all of you who have asked me recently who is doing our social media lately, it’s this gal! ✨)

So please take a second to say hello to Monica! 👋
We hope you can stop in soon to meet her and see the magic she has created in the gallery.

She does this in both 2D & 3D artworks, and creates custom wallpapers, screen prints & permanent sculpture installations. Christine has been awarded Individual Excellence Awards by the Ohio Arts Council and has shown internationally. Currently she is leading a book-making and intuitive hand-stitching workshop on the west coast.

It is my hope that my work captures not only the reality of time passing but also the distillation of what remains when the unimportant parts of life have been removed.”

Come see Christine’s work this summer AND in our upcoming fall gallery! Our shop hours are Tues-Friday 11-5:30pm & Saturday 11-3pm.

Meet the Maker!
Pt. 14: Eva Polzer
.polzer

Eva Polzer is a ceramic figurative sculptor, originating from Perry, OH, to Kent, OH respectively. This is an expert from their artist statement: “I am in a committed relationship with clay, the beauty of discomfort, and the creation of animal; breathing figures to be projected onto, to fond over, or fear for. Their bodies speak, primal and honest, a non-verbal language observed fluently. I use them as a vehicle to unpack, to attempt to understand both intrapersonal and interpersonal dis/connection and dis/regulation, and to communicate my concerns with my own internal and external world. Importantly, I find the non-human body to be an effective buffer when communicating harsh and uncomfortable realities of personhood; as there is a distance, a desensitization, that creates space for uninhibited vulnerability. This detachment is reiterated in my decision to use, in this body of work specifically, a consumable, livestock animal as my current vessel- loaded with a specific indifference, a preferred blindness, I find comparable to the generalized, even conditioned, societal apathy and misunderstandings surrounding the experiences of the mentally ill, and/or any suffer alike. Though this is a reality, I also see it as an opportunity to discuss, to dissolve boundaries, to challenge apathy, isolation, dog eat dog mentality and othering.”

Come see Eva’s incredible sculpture at our West Hill gallery. Our hours are 11am-5:30pm T-F & 11am-3pm on Sat.

to the ribbon-cutting ceremony for Summit County Land Bank. The day was in celebration of the opening of their new offices, located in the former John S Knight house on South Portage Path.

Hazel Tree had the honor of curating works by Summit County artists to grace the walls, table tops and shelves of this gorgeous renovated space. These works sit amongst historic Knight family portraits, antique books and decor that we also curated, for a balance of both old and new. (Special thanks goes out to Summit County Historical Society and Dave Lieberth for all of your assistance!)

We were so happy that so many of the artists joined us for the celebration that day. We got pictures with a few of them!

A special thank you goes out to Lizzi Aronhalt Art and Dara Harper for their gorgeous commissioned pieces. Lizzi painted the house in her colorful style and said yes to painting it on a very unusual substrate that was necessary to install it on the curved stairwell (those are old floorboards that came out of the house during the renovation.)
And Dara’s piece sits beautifully above the fireplace in the boardroom.

All in all, there are works by 34 different artists! Thank you to Summit County Land Bank for your dedication to supporting and highlighting the local arts community!

They plan to hold community events to see the space if you didn’t get a chance to make it out to see it that day. Go check it out if you can!

Just finished: Our friends at Hazel Tree Design Studio were in search of some unique wicker furniture right around the time that we stumbled across this vintage sunroom set. It had a lot of wear and structural issues but made quite the turnaround after Karen's design team and our workshop crew lent their talents to it! We love the way that the fabric looks with the swirled rattan! New bases were added to raise the seat height. The change from pillows to proper back cushions also provides a more refined look.

"Our team loves coworking at Bounce. We can get together for a meeting as an entire group, but can also easily pop into a quiet place to take a call with a client or put our heads down and 'GSD' (Get Stuff Done), as our team says. The booths in the Generator space must possess some kind of magic (Hazel Tree Design Studio is capable of anything) because we seem to get our best work done in them. Plus the coffee at Rubber City's Remarkable Coffee & Cafe is just the fuel we need to make our deadlines."
