Etc Heid's School of Musical Arts

Etc Heid's School of Musical Arts ETC Heid’s School of Musical Arts is a community based non-profit music organization that specializes in competitive show choir. ETC School of Musical Arts is a community based organization which sponsors four performing groups.
(7)

ETC Stands for Energy, Talent, and Commitment. Each group provides a unique performing opportunity, for both the performers and the audience. The goal of ETC School of Musical Arts is to provide musical education, performance training, and varied performance opportunities to its members. A positive attitude towards self, family, and community will be attained through developing an understanding of excellence and professionalism. This attitude will strengthen their character and better prepare them to meet the challenges of the future. ETC School of Musical Arts was founded 40 years ago by Robert Heid and Robert Carlyon as an auxiliary music activity for elementary students in Stow, Ohio. From the beginning of 13 young people in grades 4 through 7, ETC has grown to encompass over 100 students in grades 3 through 12 from a three county area. After many years of moving from different community centers, schools, and churches each week, ETC is pleased to be housed at the Pinetop Building on Akron-Peninsula Road. (Thanks to the generous support of donors and foundations such as GAR, Ritchie, Brennen Family, The Waddell Family, Akron Community Foundation and others). This central location has greatly enhanced our ability to attract young performers from other communities, such as Hudson, Aurora, Bath, North Hampton, etc., and provide an opportunity for our professional staff of music educators to develop these eager and talented performing groups. Our professional staff is made up of educators from Northeast Ohio who dedicate their talent and efforts to developing the choral sound that has long been a trademark of ETC. The added facet of ETC is the incorporation of choreography with the singing. Singing is still our first priority, but dance adds that special excitement to every performance. We strive to provide an appropriate amount of performances each season. These include community festivals, banquets, conventions, and fund raisers. All of these public or private events give our performers ample opportunity to share the fruits of their labors and delight audiences along the way. Becoming a good performer does require work and commitment. We like to think the “E” in ETC stands for excellence as well as energy. This tradition of excellence speaks for itself in the success of our alumni, who have distinguished themselves in many professional fields, not just as performers, after graduation from ETC.

Four Leaf Clover Run

Sometimes a decision really moves you. This decision has certainly moved us in many ways. We’ve been approached a few times about this amazing young lady. Our 2021 Adopted Fighter is Molly Oldham. 💚🍀 Meet Molly...

On August 15th, 2019, Molly Oldham was supposed to move to the University of North Carolina-Greensboro to join five other students in a highly selective musical theater program. Instead, tragically earlier that month, a tennis-ball sized tumor was found and she was diagnosed with Stage 3 anaplastic ependymoma, a rare brain cancer affecting 300 people a year nationwide. Molly underwent an 8-hour brain surgery at Akron Children’s Hospital, 33 rounds of proton radiation at University Hospitals in Cleveland and months of daily intense physical therapy. Through it all, the 2018 Revere High School graduate always kept a positive attitude. An hour after surgery, she woke up singing Ben Platt’s “Ease Your Mind” and has depended on music throughout her recovery.

When she was told that only 4 percent of all national government cancer funding goes towards pediatric cancer research, Molly decided to use her voice as a pediatric cancer advocate. Molly decided she would share her experiences and be as transparent and raw as she could. The entire family has shared the good, bad and ugly through their Instagram and pages and the #themightymolly page and www.Mollyoldham.com. Molly and her family have raised funds for local and national organizations throughout the recovery. Molly made her television debut in an episode of "Random Acts," where the show hosts surprised Molly by arranging for her to sing “For Good” from Wicked with Broadway star Shoshanna Bean. Molly's episode, "Wicked Surprise," can be seen at www.byutv.org/randomacts.

In December, Molly also became a professional recording artist with her first single, "Mighty in Me," which can be heard on the radio and streaming music sites. She recorded the song through the program Cancer Can Rock! Molly co-wrote the song, wanting it to be an anthem for others going through something hard.

But alas...Heartbreak...in January 2021, about 18 months since her first diagnosis, Molly relapsed and the cancer was back. She underwent successful surgery at Duke and when she woke up, and imagine it...this time she sang her “Mighty in Me” song.

The 19-year-old just completed intense radiation and will be undergoing chemo treatments while still taking college classes and continuing to fight the battle. Receiving the news that she’s been selected as our 2021 Adopted Fighter has been an uplift as she fights the tears each time she combs her hair and more clumps fall out.

Remember Molly Oldham’s name. You’ll fall in love with her infectious personality, like so many others, and someday when she’s on Broadway, you can say: “I know her!”
To read the Akron Beacon Journal story about Molly: https://www.beaconjournal.com/story/news/2021/01/20/bath-teen-whose-cancer-has-returned-have-surgery-duke/4211338001/

Molly will receive one-third of the 2021 campaign proceeds including our signature event, the “Reboot” of the 5th Annual Celebration of the Four Leaf Clover Run this June 12th, the 4th Annual Four Leaf Clover Golf Outing in September and all the other fundraisers throughout the 2021 campaign year along with our other two charity partners, Project Ed Bear and the Stephen A. Comunale, Jr. Family Cancer Foundation.

To kick this very special announcement off, though, we are going to pledge 100% of the FB donations we receive over the next week through next weekend directly to Molly. Just hit the link below and please find it in your heart to step up for this amazing 19 year old who’s been through so much. We 💚 you Molly and the Four Leaf Clover Run Family 🍀 is going to battle for you!! 💝

Poached from Mollys post! She’s half way there! Thank you to anyone who has donated so far! She’s $2500 away from meeting Buddy the Elf and raising $5000 for Cancer for College!!

See below:
Help Will Ferrell, @cancerforcollege and I raise money for college bound cancer warriors by joining my team or donating to the link in my bio!

The financial burden of cancer can be devastating. It can include medical bills, loss of work, expensive prescriptions and travel, and on top of that many teens and young adults also have to consider the expenses regarding college. It’s a lot on a family, and I know just how hard it can be to to get a merit scholarship when you have a tumor in your brain! Cancer for College scholarships work to help alleviate those burdens, and Will Ferrell will match any donation given in 2020!

The first 10 people to FUNraise $5000 will get a chance to meet Will Ferrell in 2021! The UNCG Musical was supposed to be ELF the Musical, but it sadly was cancelled due to the Covid pandemic. It would be so amazing to meet Buddy the Elf while raising money for a cause that is so important to me and additionally raising some awareness!

I’m raising money by singing for all to hear! For a $250 donation, I will sing you a song, record it and send it to you. For $500, you get to pick any song! For $1000, Kaylee and I will sing a song (or several) of your choice! So far I am half way there, and every dollar counts. You can Venmo me at @molly-oldham-4 or join my team by clicking the link above!

To get you in the Holiday spirit, Here is a video of @kayleevernonn and I singing “When Christmas Comes to Town” from the Polar Express! 🙂

2020/2021 Last Night the Board sat down and listened to Tara ,Chad and Rebecca on how they can start the season . I was beyond impressed on the time they spent making sure our kids are going to be in a safe environment. 4 hours of back and forth . Tonight they are going to review the plan with the Parent Leaders but it looks like ETC is going to have a season next year. It will be a out of the box approach but the one thing ETC does is adapt and change when we have to. Bob has the studio ready and will be treated nightly. Now the rest of the story We need some more kids . Main Street and Rouge are short and we need as always a few more Boys in AA . Time to recruit , time to give some kids the time of their lives. ETC 2021 and it is Showtime !!!! For more information e-mail [email protected].

Celebrating Her Story

Joci Scott The smile that is going to change the world

Please like and share. Rather than looking at what is lost, this 21-year-old is finding new purpose and joy in her life following an accident. Joci Scott is a young woman of courage who is breaking a barrier frequently seen in the theater by taking to the stage in her wheel chair. Her warrior mom, Dr. Tara Scott (TD Scott) is with her every step of the way, along with the rest of her supportive family and community. I can think of no better inspiring story to share at the start of the New Year.
