It was a magical night at the Fine Arts Winter Showcase! The CHS Theatre Wing (with a little help from Santa and his elves) had a blast at this year’s Showcase. We had so much fun getting to paint faces, sell ornaments, and take pictures with you! It was also so exciting getting to see all of the gorgeous student artwork displayed from each of the schools. The beautiful music that was performed tonight from every grade level was so special and moving. We are always so excited when we get to join together to celebrate the arts, and tonight was no exception!

Thank you for your continued support of the students in Cook County. We loved helping you get into the holiday spirit!

Based on the hit 2004 film of the same name, Mean Girls High School Version tells the story of Cady Heron- a transfer student from Africa trying to make her way through the wild and vicious terrain of high school. After gaining the attention of The Plastics, a popular group of frenemies led by the charming but vicious Regina George, Cady must decide the limits she is willing to go to keep her new found popularity. “But when Cady and her friends devise a "Revenge Party" to end Regina’s reign, she learns the hard way that you can’t cross a Queen Bee without getting stung.”

Congratulations to our Thespian Student of the Month, Carly Davis! Carly is a Senior and has been involved with the CHS Theatre Wing since her Junior year. She was voted by her peers and teachers for the month of November. Carly was selected because she “is a very talented artist!”, and always “takes her time and is very creative! Her artwork is always neat and she is always on task and working diligently”. Her peers also said that “she’s literally the most beautiful soul out of us all”. They went further discussing her work ethic saying that, “she was literally on top of a platform putting boxes on a trailer”, and that she is always dedicated to detail “especially with the bricks and the checkered just looks so clean and pretty. She just does so amazing with our sets every single time and [we are] just so proud of her”! Congratulations Carly! We are so proud of you and all of your accomplishments.

Hi everyone!

We hope that you are enjoying your summer break, and we are so excited to begin a new season of theatre and sharing art with you! On Monday, July 18th at 9:30 am there will be a drama club and Thespian Troupe officers meeting to discuss the upcoming year. Topics being discussed include ThesCon auditions for opening number, STO elections and Thespys- tech and performance. It’s absolutely fine if anyone has to miss, just please let Ms. Powell know beforehand so their information can be forwarded to them afterward. Please note that that State Thespian Officer elections and opening number (All State Theatre) auditions will be happening at the same time so people can only pick one. Our troupe is only permitted to send 2 students to run for STO, so the first two students to email will be permitted to run for STO. Running for STO elections is only open to our elected Thespian troupe officers. There is no limit for the amount of people permitted to audition for All State Theatre, however you must be a fully registered Thespian.

Several of you were very interested at the end of last year in running, and also interested in auditioning for opening number of ThesCon, so please let Ms. Powell know asap if you are going to participate. The deadline for letting Ms. Powell know if you are participating is the first day of school: Friday, August 5th.

Following the officers meeting, there will be a One Act Play interest meeting. Any student interested in auditioning for our One Act production is encouraged to attend. We will be answering questions about the production, rehearsal schedule, and students will be permitted to sign up for audition slots (if they have not done so already)

Thanks so much! We look forward to seeing you soon!
CHS Theatre Wing students interested in auditioning for ThesCon All State Theatre will need to mark their calendars for these specific dates. The audition window will open at the beginning of August, and your video submission will be due by 11:59pm Sunday, August 21st. Interested students must be a registered (meaning you have PAID your $35!) Thespian, and should email Ms. Powell to sign up for an audition slot.

If you are interested in running for State Thespian Officer (STO), please email Ms. Powell asap. There is a limit to how many we are permitted to run for office, so it is first come first serve.

We’re so excited about the coming year, and can’t wait to bring you along! 💛🖤
Auditions for our One Act Play Competition show will be held Monday, August 1st and Tuesday, August 2nd from 3:30-7:30. Students interested in auditioning should prepare 1 minute of a musical theatre song and be prepared to read from the script. Callbacks, if needed, will occur on Thursday, August 4th. Students who receive a callback will be notified by email. The cast list will be posted on the first day of school, August 5th, and rehearsals will begin Monday, August 8th at 5:30pm. Audition slots are quickly filling, so please email Ms. Powell to sign up for an audition time and/ or ask any questions. We can’t wait to see you soon!

We’re so excited about our 2022-2023 season, and can’t wait to bring you along for the ride! Mark your calendars for these exciting events 💛
Thank you so much for an incredible 2021-2022 season. We have had an amazing year- from placing 2nd at One Act Play, to having a Best Actress Winner (a first for our region!) along with *2* Region Cast Members (one of which has won this award *3* years in a row!). To dressing up as Cruella and her Dalmatians at Trunk or Treat and Fall Frolic. To being one of TWENTY- SIX schools in the entire state of Georgia to perform at Georgia Thespian Conference, and the only school from
South Georgia selected, to performing before *2* huge sold out crowds at Georgia Thespian Conference, to having our Stage Manager and Spotlight technician receives awards at Georgia Thespian Conference for their incredible work. To having a GHP semi-finalist, and to traveling to LaGrange College to attend Master Classes, workshops, and a performance of Pump Boys and Dinettes. To participating in Read Across America at the Primary School, and having *2* private performances for *800* primary students. And, finally sharing our journey into the woods with you.

Thank you for being so incredibly supportive of students and this program. You have been with us through it all, and we are so thankful to have you continually support our program.

We look forward to seeing you back in the Carolyn Harris next fall for our One Act Competition show in October. Until then we are pleased to announce the 2022-2023 club and troupe officers. Each officer was voted on by his and her peers, and our students have selected an incredible team for next year! Please congratulate these students when you see them on all of their amazing accomplishments!

The way is clear
The light is good
I have no fear
Nor no one should
The woods are just trees
The trees are just wood
No need to be afraid there
There's something in the glade there 🌲

Tonight is your last chance to join us on our journey into the woods. You don’t want to miss this special show, and we would love to have you join us on our trip to the festival. 💛

Into the Woods will play the Carolyn Harris Performing Arts Center May 6th-9th at 7pm. Tickets are $10 for adults and $7 for students, and can be purchased online through MySchoolBucks or at the door. Box office will open 15 minutes before the show. One of the most popular works by Stephen Sondheim, Into the Woods takes audiences on an epic journey about wishes, family, curses, and choices (and their consequences). Featuring everyone’s favorite fairytale characters, Into the Woods shows audiences that everyone is special and important- just as they are, and working together is the only way “out of the woods”. So…

There's something in the glade there 🌲
To get what you wish only just for a moment 💛

Night 2 highlights include: annual post cast/ crew photo, a wonderful visit from our friends at Worth County Drama Club, and an incredible crowd took a journey with us into the woods.

There is only *1* more chance to see Into the Woods. We promise there is a “happily ever after”! This is such a special show, and we would love for you to join us on our trip to the festival.

So…

The way is clear
The light is good
I have no fear
Nor no one should
The woods are just trees
The trees are just wood
No need to be afraid there
There's something in the glade there 🌲
Only *2* more chances to join us on our our quest into the woods to obtain
1. A cow as white as milk. 🐄
2. A cape as red as blood.🩸
3. Hair as yellow as corn.🌽
4. A slipper as pure as gold. 🥿

Along the way of our journey travelers are certain to encounter classic storybook characters including: The Narrator to tell our tale, Jack from Jack and the Beanstalk, his beloved cow, Milky White, and his Mother. Also joining us on our quest are Little Red Riding Hood, Rapunzel, Cinderella, and her evil stepmother and stepsisters and the welcoming Baker and his wife. But a warning travelers thinking of taking this journey: be on the lookout of vengeful witches and hungry wolves- certain to delay our travels. …there may also be a beanstalk and a giant …or two on the lose!
