The first Broadway show I ever saw! A blackbox... gee what a great idea!!!

We're saddened to hear that Robin Wagner, original set designer for A Chorus Line, has passed away. 🤍 Robin worked on the set with Director Michael Bennett throughout the musical's journey to Broadway:

“We started with big things for visualizing scenes, and as we went through the show’s workshop period, they got smaller and smaller. And then we knew we needed a black box, which represents theater, and that we needed the mirrors, because they represent the dance studio.”

SPECIAL OPPORTUNITY TO WORK WITH NEURODIVERSE YOUNG ADULTS

Acton, Mass. (September 14, 2022) — Theatre with a Twist, Inc of Acton, a not-for-profit theatre organization and the Northeast Arc Adult Autism Support Center, a not-for-profit organization that helps adults with Autism become full participants in the community, are participating to bring theatre to neurodiverse adults in a unique theatrical experience.
Mary Spinosa, Owner of the theatre is a drama therapist, educator, case manager and experienced psychiatric nurse. She will be working with Andrea Green, music therapist and playwright of Philadelphia, to develop a unique therapeutic program and fun experience for neurodiverse young adults ages 18 - 35.
Mary is offering an opportunity for INDEPENDENT STUDY students or interested adults in the field to participate and assist with the program. She is seeking interested individuals in the field of occupational therapy, music therapy, special education, social workers, drama therapy, teaching, psychology, dance, dance therapy, and/or expressive therapy. The opportunity will be available to 5 participants. Mary will interview anyone who is interested in participating in the program. The 12-week program will begin in November and a final production will commence in early Feb 2023.
Please email Mary directly at [email protected] if interested and request a private appointment to discuss with Mary.
The focus of this program for participants will include, but is not limited to, helping those participants improve interpersonal skills, promote positive behavioral changes, integrate physical and emotional well-being, improve overall quality of life, and have fun! The 5 assistants will be able to use their skill and arrange with Mary an independent study that can be used in your college, university or certificate program if required. A participant may also be eligible to participate just for the unique opportunity to work with some great young adults. Please reach out to Mary if you can help and are interested in getting involved with this group.

Please help the theatre. Am currently setting us up as a charitable foundation with Facebook, but that process with FB takes 3 - 4 weeks. We are a 501 (c) (3) not-for-profit community theatre serving Boston and Boston, Metro West. Please read and consider a donation. Thank you ahead of time...

Here is a copy of a letter I sent out to parents and friends the other day. Maybe you can help or share this note with others that you know - theatre helps so many people - in so many ways - young and old. Please consider a donation with my thanks.

As we come to the fall of 2020, we find ourselves in an interesting and difficult position. First, we thank you for your continued support and dedication that have made our theatre organization a growing success over these past few years. Because of this, when Covid-19 hit, we were able to sustain ourselves for several months. Robin was able to take the concepts of virtual teaching into her hands and make Zoom a reality for many of our students. She has quadrupled the amount of work she does to get us where we are right now.

We anticipate getting together this fall to begin phasing in the existing theatre programs that should have performed earlier this year. We anticipate smaller shows with a smaller cast to keep our cast members and families safe in response to the limited number of individuals allowed in one space.

Covid-19 has had quite an impact on our theatre. Our 4 week summer camp programs were cut in half, our spring, summer and fall productions have been delayed, or cancelled, and the theatre has spent thousands of dollars, in addition to regular expenses, to get our building updated to comply with the state and CDC standard guidelines.

This included having a consulting agency, that specializes in recommendations to facilitate the Covid-guidelines for continued work, assess and recommend adaptation of the theatre’s programs and facility. The theatre also brought in professional companies to clean and sanitize ventilation air ducts, deep clean surfaces and install new bathroom sinks, as well as many other needs. Costs were also incurred as the theatre worked to make our outside play/performance areas usable, purchased required- fire-rated tents, cleaned out the costume and props rooms, removed old and unused sets, painted other high-usage set pieces, and established sanitation and social distancing areas throughout the theatre.

Through this all, there is still rent, electric, gas and insurance expenses, royalty costs for present shows, town permit fees and much more. Our overall costs have gone up dramatically. And, while summer camp staff were paid, Robin and administrative staff have graciously accepted a furlough of pay until further notice.

Together, we have accomplished so much more than is noted above. We are in a new normal but we should not allow this to get in the way of children and adults using our space to grow, learn about social skills, become better public speakers, build confidence and a team spirit, and have fun. We understand things have changed and we are striving to make the theatre better for all, including a future for updated, inclusive programming for youth and adults who require a different sensory environment for their growth in arts and culture; many of whom are actively involved in our ongoing productions as a result of receiving the positive attention that our programming provides. We find the arts do so much for the growth of everyone who participates - young and old.

Please consider a tax-deductible contribution to help our youth, and all of our other programs, grow in their arts, culture, and theatre endeavors. We are not at year end, but the future of our program needs assistance to sustain its existence right now, during the pandemic. The theatre is self -sustaining and did not qualify for the recent SBA loan programs because of its not-for-profit status. We ask that you please consider Theatre with a Twist, Inc. in your philanthropy. Also, if your company wishes, they sometimes can provide a matching gift to your donation as well.

Theatre with a Twist is a 501 (C) (3), tax deductible, non-profit public charity community theatre organization. Our tax-ID is 80-0598867. As we move into the fall, we want to be conscientious that you, your families, your employment and our environment has not been compromised. We foresee some of our pricing to be increased slightly but it all depends on sustaining donations at this point. The theatre strives to minimize our costs and asks for your help and consideration in this.

Donations can be made with a credit card via PayPal through our website www.theatrewithatwist.org.

Checks are also greatly appreciated and can be mailed to Theatre with a Twist, Inc. 278 Great Road, Acton, MA 01720

Emerson Hospital has asked me to get the word out.

While Emerson Hospital currently has inventory to support our healthcare workers in the short term, we are planning for a high volume of patients in which our inventory of Personal Protection Equipment (PPE) will begin to deplete rapidly. Current needs include masks (surgical & N95 any version), gowns, Tyvek suits or similar, and eye protection (face shields of any kind). Please reach out to Karl Kussin, Emerson’s Chief Philanthropy Officer and Vice President of Development at 978-287-3080 or email [email protected].
