One thing I love to do is redraw my old art. This is a side by side comparison. The color piece was done in 2008 as part of a series. So far, I've only redrawn one of that series, but I hope to redraw the rest eventually. In those days, my art mirrored my fashion and was vivid neon colors. I used mostly Dr. Martin's super condensed watercolor pigment dyes and a Winsor Newton & Cotman pallet I favored at the time. Nowadays I work almost exclusively in black and white, using Faber Castell Pitt pens, Posca markers, and white gel pens (Uniball Signo and Jellyroll). Another change I made is that almost all of my art now is 11 x 17, and more often than not, vertical. I made the switch from color to black and white around 2017 to address issues I was struggling with concerning contrast, chiaroscuro, and composition. While this comparison doesn't showcase some of the growth in these areas, I do feel the switch has helped. I'd consider adding color back, but as a separate style, incorporating what I've learned. Which do you prefer, and why?
