Yesturday, representatives from the Uganda film industry held a productive meeting with the Commissioner of Culture, Mr. Bakaye, at the Ministry of Gender, Labour and Social Development, alongside representatives from the National Planning Authority.

The meeting brought together leaders from PGU, and regional associations, including the Western Uganda Film Producers Association (WUFPA), Northern Uganda Film Producers Association (NUFPA), Elgon Film Producers Association, the Costume Designers Guild, Screenwriters Guild, Makeup Artists Guild, and other industry stakeholders.

Together, we presented a three-year strategic plan outlining key priorities for the growth of Uganda’s film industry, including:
•Development of a National Film Policy
•Establishment of a Uganda Film Commission
•Capacity building for filmmakers
•Creation of regional film hubs
•Support for regional film festivals

We are encouraged by the positive engagement from the Ministry, which committed to review the proposal and work towards supporting the industry’s vision for a stronger, more organized, and globally competitive Ugandan film sector.

This is another important step towards building a sustainable future for Uganda’s creative economy through unity, partnership, and shared purpose.
