Bearing Fruit
"Remain in me, as I remain in you. Just as a branch cannot bear fruit on its own unless it remains on the vine, so neither can you unless you remain in me. I am the vine, you are the branches. Whoever remains in me and I in him will bear much fruit, because without me you can do nothing." John 15:4-5
It is easy to think we can handle things on our own. We make plans, solve problems, and push forward with our own strength. For a while, it even feels like it is working.
But deep down, something feels off. The effort is there, but the meaning feels thin.
Jesus uses a simple image. A branch does not struggle to produce fruit. It stays connected, and the fruit comes in time. The moment it is cut off, it may still look fine for a while, but slowly it dries out.
That is how we are. When we drift away from Him, we may still function, still move through our days, but something inside starts to fade.
Staying with Him does not always look dramatic. It can be as simple as a short prayer, a quiet moment of honesty, or choosing to trust Him in something small. These are the ways we remain.
And over time, something changes. Not all at once, but steadily. Our thoughts soften. Our actions carry more patience. The fruit begins to show, not because we forced it, but because we stayed connected.
Where in your life have you been relying only on your own strength? What is one small way you can stay connected to Him today?
Lord, help me stay close to You in the small moments of my day. When I try to rely on myself alone, remind me that I need You. Keep me connected to You so that my life may bear fruit in ways that truly matter. Amen.
