Dear all!

I would like to thank everyone who joined the first 'Intercultural Movie Night' yesterday evening :) With almost 20 people we watched four short movies which played on well-known International Film Festivals, and we had some pretty intense discussions afterwards.

From now on we will organize this movie night every 2 weeks on a thursday, so the next event will be on the 15th of October!

Every movie night has a central theme, which can be about culture, politics, music, science or anything you are interested in! If you have any ideas, please propose them!

SAY has been a little bit off the radar for a while and is working hard on new events for the next season! For now, as promised and to keep everyone busy and well nourished, coming weeks we shall be posting the recipes as followed during our Cultural Cuisines the past months! (We're now busy collecting them all..)

This week the Dutch recipe for pepernoten, make sure to practice before Sinterklaas on December 5th! There is a video to match, though in it 2 varieties are shown, but the recipe given here is sort of a mix of the 2!

To make about 50 pepernoten, you will need;
50 g butter
1 cup of brown sugar
1 tablespoon milk
1 cup self raising flour
1,5 spoon of speculaas spices (see below)

Ingredients for speculaas spices:
1 teaspoon ground nutmeg
1 teaspoon ground cloves
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1⁄2 teaspoon ground aniseed
1⁄2 teaspoon ground ginger
All of these spices need to be crushed to become almost like powder and then mixed to make the speculaas spices.

Follow the following simple instructions;
1) Pre-heat the oven at 170 ˚C.
2) Cream the butter and sugar, then add spice mix (or spices).
3) Add the flour and milk.
4) Mix and mold the mixture until it is a soft, smooth and thick paste.
5) Make small marble sized balls and place them on an oven tray with enough space between them.
4) Bake for 10-15 minutes until golden.

A double feeling for SAY this week, as the time has come to say goodbye! We are happy but also sad to be hosting our last Cultural Cuisine this Monday, at least of this summer! We hope to celebrate День незалежності України with you and we are delighted to announce we have been invited to be hosted in Graff.in! Thank you already for the hospitality, those with golden voices, prepare for some karaoke afterwards :) For this last event, we would like to finish where we started, with some delicious Dutch "pepernoten", to be taught by our original Dutchie Roos Klaver, who will sadly depart Sumy shortly after. We hope to see you all tomorrow, don't forget to sign up for the event!

With pleasure and excitement we announce our 7th (already!) Cultural Cuisine, this Saturday (yes, we changed from our usual Thursday)! Under the lead of Diego Almeida we will be cooking traditional Mexican nachos, the perfect summer snack :) Having had a wonderful night last week, we are also pleased to inform you Feeria Bar Sumy will be hosting us again, thank you in advance! In the middle of an amazing Cultural Cuisine under the lead if our lovely Svetlana! We feel a little bit like we are in Italy with this delicious bruschetta! Thank you all that came to join and an extra big thank you for Svetlana, her little help chef and Feeria Bar for hosting us!! We will continue Italian life some more.. :)

SAY is happy to announce that for this week's Cultural Cuisine, we have found another beautiful Master Chef! This Thursday we shall be making delicious bruschetta, a traditional Italian dish, taught by our guest master chef from Carsano, Svetlana Degan :) Please note, the location is yet to be announced..
