Втратив обидві ноги, але став кращим. Так він говорить про себе і всіх, хто пережив ампутацію після бойової травми.
Віталій народився на Хмельниччині, але 20 років прожив у Криму, рідними йому є обидва регіони. З Криму виїхав ще до окупації, хоча сестра залишилася в окупації. Її Віталій не тривожить, щоб не наражати на небезпеку. Коли 24 лютого 2022 року почалося повномасштабне вторгнення, для чоловіка це стало трагедією. Серед ночі мама у сльозах запитала Віталія: «Сину, ти знаєш? Війна» Каже, що ці слова запамʼятав на все життя. Не відсиджувався вдома - пішов воювати. Вдома залишилася дружина і три сини.
Поранення Віталій отримав, коли його підрозділ йшов на допомогу, замінити на позиціях. «Це було 1 липня 2023-го. Контрнаступ росіян якраз почався, ми втримали цей натиск, але рашисти нас знайшли, міномет прилетів. Поранення сталося на межі Донецької і Луганської області, у Червонопопівці, тут багато наших хлопців загинуло», - пригадує Віталій. Ізюм, Харків, Львів - такий був маршрут Віталія після поранення. Дружина з перших хвилин була з ним. І коли він втратив обидві ноги, залишалася поруч і надихала на реабілітацію.
«Завжди мене надихала моя родина, діти. Найменшому синочкові нашому шість, старшому – п’ятнадцять, середньому - тринадцять. У наших дітей вкрали дитинство. Але найменший щасливий, що я скоро буду вдома, будемо ходити до школи. Він ще нічого не розуміє, що це важкий момент, хоча ходив до мене у лікарню, він просто знає, що тато у нього найсильніший. Він нічого не розуміє, і я від цього щасливий», - каже ветеран. На його думку, головне - не залишати людину наодинці з пораненням і ампутацією. «Таке відчуття, ніби від тебе щось відірвалося. Але навколо тебе є твоя родина, друзі, побратими. Господь напевно дає такі випробування не просто так - ти як стаєш надлюдиною. Для мене це було саме так. Словами це не передати… Це приходить потім, само собою, це розуміння. Я намагаюся розказати хлопцям, що це як народження тебе нового, ти ще кращий став, тож маєш стати сильнішим після цього переродження», - роздумує Віталій.
Йому виготовили протези у Берліні. З того часу Віталій став на залізні ноги і живе своє осмислене життя. «Намагаюся бути привітним завжди, посміхаюся, хтось посміхається мені у відповідь, хтось ні, але ми такі самі люди, як інші. Якщо не будеш любити себе, тебе не будуть любити інші. Будеш любити себе - будеш займатися собою, а спорт - це такий ніби шлях до примирення з самим собою, ти можеш довести собі багато речей, тут ти відволікаєшся, ти з побратимами - і це круто. Знайти собі хобі - це теж круто», - говорить Віталій. Без побратимів він не уявляє собі майбутнього. Хоче повернутися у родину, адже не був з дітьми два з половиною роки, а ще хоче допомагати своїм козакам, збирати для них дрони. Але найбільше хоче, щоб закінчилася війна.

Lost both legs but became better. That’s how Vitaliy describes himself and all those who have undergone amputations after combat injuries.
Vitaliy was born in the Khmelnytskyi region but lived for 20 years in Crimea. Both regions are close to his heart. He left Crimea before the occupation, although his sister remained. He doesn’t reach out to her, so as not to put her in danger. When the full-scale invasion began on February 24, 2022, it was a tragedy for him. In the middle of the night, his mother, in tears, asked him, "Son, do you know that we are at war?". Vitaliy says he’ll remember those words for the rest of his life. He didn’t stay at home—he went to fight. His wife and three sons stayed behind.
Vitaliy was injured when his unit was heading to relieve another on the frontlines. “It happened on July 1, 2023. The russian counteroffensive had just begun. We held our position, but the russists found us, and a mortar hit. The injury happened at the border between Donetsk and Luhansk regions, near Chervonopopivka. Many of our men died there”, Vitaliy recalls. His journey after the injury took him through Izium, Kharkiv, and Lviv. His wife was by his side from the very first moments. Even when he lost both legs, she stayed with him and motivated him through rehabilitation.
“My family has always inspired me, especially my children. Our youngest is 6, the oldest is 15, and the middle one is 13. Their childhood was stolen from them. But the youngest is happy because I’ll be home soon, and we’ll walk to school together. He doesn’t fully understand what’s happening, even though he visited me in the hospital. He just knows that his dad is the strongest. He doesn’t grasp the gravity of the situation, and I’m thankful for that,” says the veteran.
He believes the key is not to leave a person alone with their injury and amputation. “It feels like you’ve lost a part of yourself. But you’re surrounded by your family, friends, and comrades. You have to understand that this is like a rebirth. Maybe God gives such challenges to make you superhuman. That’s how it felt for me. It’s hard to explain with words… it comes later, on its own. I try to tell the guys that this is like being born again. You become better, and you have to become stronger through this rebirth,” Vitaliy reflects.
He received prosthetics in Berlin. Since then, Vitaliy has stood on his metal legs and lives a meaningful life. “I try to be friendly, always smile. Some smile back, some don’t. But we are just like everyone else. If you don’t love yourself, no one will love you. But if you love yourself, you take care of yourself, and sport is a way to reconcile with yourself. It proves so many things to you. You’re with your comrades, and that’s great. Finding a hobby is great too,” Vitaliy says. He cannot imagine his future without his fellow soldiers. He wants to return to his family, he’s been away from his kids for two and a half years, and he also wants to help his comrades, to continue gathering drones for them. But most of all, he wants the war to end.
