You still have some time to catch “Little Pink” in a bunker!

Exhibition Location: Taipei, Taiwan
Time: June 21- August 17, Tue-Sun 11AM-6PM

“Little Pink”
Little Pink is a term commonly used to describe jingoistic young Chinese nationalists on the internet. The 3D printed armies in the Little Pink project are cloned to resemble the modern imperial mechanism used to create homogeneity among people, with the purpose of protecting the power of People’s Republic of China‘s leader Xi Jinping and exerting threats towards Taiwan’s sovereignty. Using the form of the Terracotta Armies of Qin Shi Huang, considered the first Emperor of China, the project aims to draw connections between the historical tyrant and the current leader of China. Xi Jinping, who resembles an emperor, abolished presidential term limits in 2017, allowing him to serve as president for a lifetime. Qin Shi Huang was remembered for his work of ”Unifying China“ - a term also used by Xi Jinping to justify China‘s territorial ambitions, including Taiwan.

A Knot That Is Not
New series of prints exploring the tension between complexity and simplicity, inspired by knot theory and the cultural significance of knot-making. Each print features an ”unknot“—a loop that appears tangled, yet can be mentally unraveled.
These are visual puzzles meant to be lingered over, inviting the viewer to untie them with the mind, through memory, intuition, and presence.

🪢 Available for purchase or exchange—DM me if interested 🪢

Language unravels into form—each print begins with a single Chinese character, then slips into something less certain.
Inspired by the tradition of single-word Chinese calligraphy, the series explores characters such as love (愛), dream (夢), pain (痛), path (道), authenticity (真), strength (力), virtue (德), and more.

Ink monoprints on xuan paper.

It’s been a wonderful three weeks at the Virginia Center for the Creative Arts, surrounded by inspiring artists, their stories, and their practices. My studio came with a printing press, and I’ve been having so much fun experimenting with it! I’m absolutely loving the process. Next, I’ll be spending a few days in DC, Philly, and Shenandoah National Park before returning to VCCA to finish my prints—then it’s back to LA. Grateful for everyone who has shared, listened, encouraged, and inspired along the way!

Prosperity and Auspiciousness, 2024
Embroidery peony flower, Embroidery aircraft, silk
82 x 122cm (32 x 48 in)

Inspired by traditional Chinese decorative painting, known for its depictions of peonies and chickens, this piece intertwines cultural symbolism with geopolitical commentary. The composition features peonies—long revered as a symbol of prosperity in Chinese culture—shaped to mirror China’s geographical outline while taking the form of a chicken. In traditional painting, the chicken represents good fortune, as “chicken” and “auspiciousness” share a similar pronunciation in Mandarin.

Surrounding Taiwan, fighter jets are strategically positioned to highlight ongoing geopolitical tensions, reflecting the harassment, threats, and intimidation from Chinese military aircraft. In Mandarin, “jet” share the same pronunciation as “chicken”, creating a stark contrast between the ominous presence of military force and the traditional symbols of luck and prosperity.

I’m forced to be an optimist, 2024
35 x 23 inch, 90 cm (H) x 59 cm (W)
Archival Inkjet Print

Amidst international media narratives that often cast and objectify Taiwan as a target, a ticking time bomb, and a point of conflict in its relationship with China, this project stands as a reminder of the individualist strength and resilience present within the Taiwanese community. In the face of constant threats, the project delves into the intricate layers that weave together to define the multifaceted Taiwanese identity.

WITHIN THE CROSSHAIRS, 2024
Scope, mirror, rod, rig, handle, marble, button
100 x 30 x 5 cm (40 x 12 x 2 inch)

Against the persistent backdrop of China’s looming military threat to Taiwan, WITHIN THE CROSSHAIRS explores the complexities of life on the island, where moments of joy exist alongside the ever-present specter of violence. The piece intertwines themes of power and conflict through a kaleidoscope embedded in a sculptural form resembling a rifle with a targeting scope.
Participants engage by moving around and holding the structure, peering through the kaleidoscopic lens. This interaction transforms the familiar sensations of power and physicality associated with aiming, disrupting conventional perceptions of control and violence.

Magic Mountain, 2024
Semiconductor wafer, wood, acrylic paint
30 x 30 x 2.5 cm (12 x 12 x 1 in) each

MAGIC MOUNTAIN explores the fusion of Taiwan’s cultural legacy, its pivotal role in the semiconductor industry, and the geopolitical tensions with China. At the heart of the piece is the Bagua mirror, traditionally a fengshui ornament designed to ward off negativity. Here, it is reimagined with a semiconductor wafer at its core, symbolizing the industry’s significant role in political turmoil while reflecting the blend of ancient wisdom and cutting-edge technology.
