PIERRE HUYGHE
LIMINAL
2024
Palazzo Grassi - Punta della Dogana, Venice, Itally
"Liminal," an exhibition conceived by Pierre Huyghe in close collaboration with curator Anne Stenne, presents important new creations alongside works from the last ten years, notably from the Bourse de Commerce - Pinault Collection.
Pierre Huyghe has long explored the relationship between the human and the non-human and conceives of his works as speculative fictions from which other modalities of the world emerge. For him, fictions are "vehicles for accessing the possible or the impossible—what could be or not be."
With "Liminal," Pierre Huyghe transforms the Punta della Dogana into a dynamic and sensitive environment in perpetual evolution. The exhibition is a transitional state populated by human and non-human creatures and becomes the site for the formation of subjectivities that are constantly learning, changing, or hybridizing. Their memories are continually amplified by information gleaned from events that traverse the exhibition, both perceptible and imperceptible.
For Pierre Huyghe, the exhibition constitutes an unpredictable ritual, where new possibilities are generated and coexist, without hierarchy or determinism. With "Liminal," the artist questions our perception of reality as if we were becoming strangers to ourselves, from a perspective other than that of the human—the inhuman.
