I’ve always loved painting deserts, even though I’ve never been to one. I just find them so magical! And the warm colors and endless dunes make the painting process feel so calming 🏜️✨

This might be my favorite from the Italian summer series I painted recently ⛱️ To me, it has that feeling of a hot, lazy summer afternoon and a quiet harbor where nothing much is happening. I can almost hear the church bells in the distance.

I think I also love it because painting it felt refreshing and freeing. I tried to loosen up, suggest more and leave some things unfinished… ✨

It’s very rare that I finish a painting and think “Well… I actually pulled that off”. But that was definitely the case with this one!

Initially I almost talked myself out of it, thinking it was too ambitious for me to paint it. I was already preparing myself for a failure…
I guess that’s probably why finishing it was so rewarding ✨
