Miller’s mother was working the quiet garden soil when Blitz suddenly let out a low, uneasy whine. A distant hum quickly swelled into a bone-rattling roar, shaking the earth as a massive fleet of 1940s military aircraft crested the tree line and blotted out the sun.

Wiping her dirt-stained hands on her apron, she stood and watched the sprawling armada fly over their home. Up there weren't just machines; there were the nation's sons, fathers, and brothers heading into the terrifying unknown. Resting a trembling hand on Blitz's neck, she stood in silent prayer, watching the shadow of war finally fall across her front yard.
