We are reunited with yet another one of our favourite collaborators — Ratthee Phaisanchotsiri (Ratthee Phaisanchotsiri) aka P’Obe.

Along with 965, P’Obe has been revisiting the district in which he grew up, exploring the rituals that shape his childhood and others that form part of the Chinese community in and around Talat Noi.

We visited Thanok Sri Panich (ถนกศรีพานิช) and spoke with Ei Mam about the different rituals that mark celebration and commemoration in Chinese communities in Bangkok. Having been open for over two decades, she has noticed a decline in sales as the new generations have let go of some of the rituals that shape worship.

The items in her store change every few months to reflect the different events that happen during the year. However, the constant being items that serve as ancestral offerings.

It’s rainy season and our century old home is in need of a little TLC. We’ll be closed from Monday 17th of August until Friday 21st of August for some maintenance works and in preparation for the next phase of 965.

With Songkran coming up, we wanted to shed light on this traditional Thai New Year celebration. Songkran derived from the Sanskrit word sankranti, meaning “to pass into” or “transit”. Rooted in ancient Hindu-Buddhist traditions, it marks the sun’s shift into Aries. Historically before the water fights, Songkran was celebrated as a quiet, ritual based reset.

Puang Malai are hand-threaded floral garlands, most commonly made from jasmine, roses, orchids or marigolds — symbolises purity and respect, are offerings to the sacred and our loved ones for blessings and protection.

To celebrated Songkran, EQ and 965 are hosting a Malai workshop this Thursday, April 9th @965 Soi Wanit 2.

We are excited to announce the Extreme Repair Lab Exhibit by starting from 29 January to 8 February.

“Extreme Repair Lab” presents work from Year 4 design students at CU INDA, applying architectural thinking to product design. The work addresses contemporary topics of sustainability, consumption and innovation through the lens of repair. Repair is proposed here as a design methodology to reimagine objects through the hybridizing of typologies and aesthetics. The designers bring maximalist formal approaches and extreme functional proposals to the otherwise very humble endeavor of repair - reconfiguring and upgrading the original product into something completely unexpected. The studio’s focus is on the objects found in domestic spaces, reimagined via extreme repair for future living scenarios. The work is carried out through phygital workflows where the designers mix 3d-scanning, digital modeling and 3d-printing with hand-craft and hand-drawing. Final outcomes are not simple repairs and restorations but new and bold objects, emerging to invite collective dreaming about yet unseen futures. The exhibit & workshops will be hosted at 965, a restored 200-year-old merchant house, which serves as a symbolic backdrop, reflecting the themes of transformation and sustainability inherent in both the space and the showcased designs. This historic venue creates an intimate setting for visitors to engage with innovative ideas while honoring the narratives embedded within its walls.
