JWD Art Space ยินดีนำเสนอ 'นิราศนิวยอร์ค / Nirat New York' นิทรรศการเดี่ยวของ คามิน เลิศชัยประเสริฐ หยิบยืมชื่อมาจาก “นิราศ”วรรณกรรมการเดินทางของไทยที่เขียนจากมุมมองของผู้จากบ้าน นำเสนอช่วงเวลาที่คามินใช้ชีวิตอยู่ในนิวยอร์กระหว่างปี พ.ศ. 2530 ถึงราว พ.ศ. 2535 จากการรวบรวมเอกสารจดหมายเหตุและผลงานจากช่วงเวลาดังกล่าวที่ไม่ค่อยได้รับการสำรวจ นิทรรศการไม่ได้แสดงช่วงเวลาดังกล่าวในฐานะบทเริ่มต้นอันงดงามของศิลปิน หากแต่มองช่วงเวลาดังกล่าวในฐานะภาวะของความเคว้งคว้างและการไม่อาจลงหลักปักฐาน
นิราศนิวยอร์ค / Nirat New York ประกอบสร้างภาพของช่วงเวลาแห่งความแตกกระจาย มากกว่าจะเล่าเรื่องพัฒนาการทางศิลปะอย่างต่อเนื่องและไร้รอยต่อ นิทรรศการยังวางประสบการณ์ของคามินไว้ภายในบริบทที่กว้างขึ้น เมื่อศิลปะร่วมสมัยจากเอเชียและเอเชียแปซิฟิกเริ่มถูกมองเห็น และอธิบายอย่างเข้มข้นขึ้นภายในวงจรนิทรรศการนานาชาติ นิทรรศการนี้แสดงให้ว่าศิลปินไทยคนหนุ่มคนหนึ่งต่อรองกับสนามที่กำลังเปลี่ยนแปลงนี้อย่างไร ขณะเดียวกันก็แสวงหารูปแบบของการปฏิบัติทางศิลปะที่สามารถโอบรับชีวิตประจำวัน การใคร่ครวญทางจิตวิญญาณ และความไม่แน่นอนของการอยู่ระหว่างสถานที่อย่างไร

JWD Art Space is pleased to present ‘Nirat New York’, a solo exhibition by Kamin Lertchaiprasert curated by Vipash Purichanont. The exhibition borrows its title from nirat, a Thai literary genre of travel writing composed from the perspective of one who has left home. The exhibition presents the period Kamin spent living in New York between 1987 to around 1992, bringing together archival materials and works from this relatively underexplored moment in his practice.
Rather than presenting these years as a polished point of origin in the artist’s career, the exhibition approaches them as a condition of dislocation, uncertainty, and the inability to settle. Nirat New York constructs an image of a fragmented period, rather than narrating artistic development as a continuous and seamless progression.
The exhibition also situates Kamin’s experience within a broader context, when contemporary art from Asia and the Asia-Pacific began to gain increasing visibility and interpretation within international exhibition circuits. It asks how a young Thai artist negotiated this changing field, while also searching for forms of artistic practice capable of embracing everyday life, spiritual reflection, and the uncertainty of existing between places.
