Luang Por Koon Wat Pun-Onn Sacred Herb Amulet (B.E. 2523)
Award-Winning Amulet
This amulet was awarded 1st Prize at the Thai Amulet Competition organized by the Chanthaburi Amulet Association, held at Chanthaburi Municipality on May 10, 2026.
The amulet is the rare Half-Figure Luang Por Koon Rectangular Mold, featuring the portrait of Luang Por Koon based on his famous B.E. 2517 coin design. The front bears the sacred inscription “Ya Na Ya” together with the Yan “Au,” while the reverse contains sacred Yan markings and an embedded silver Takrut.
This particular example is made from Palm Leaf Powder, the rarest material of this mold.
Historical Background
In July B.E. 2523 (1980), shortly before the beginning of Buddhist Lent, Luang Por Koon Parisuttho accepted an invitation from Phra Kru Sri Pariyattiyanurat, the abbot of Wat Pun-Onn in Chiang Mai, to reside at the temple throughout the three-month Buddhist Lent retreat.
During this period, two local disciples, Mr. Sumrit and Mr. Kasem, sought permission to create a commemorative batch of sacred amulets dedicated to Luang Por Koon. The amulets were intended for distribution to devotees and donors who supported Wat Pun-Onn.
After receiving Luang Por Koon’s approval, the organizers collected sacred herbs (Wahn) from the forests of Mae Taeng District, along with carefully selected cultivated herbs. These materials were blended according to traditional northern Thai methods and formed into amulets at Wat Pun-Onn.
Sacred Ingredients
The amulets contain a remarkable combination of sacred substances, including:
Sacred forest herbs and cultivated herbs
Luang Por Koon’s hair
Luang Por Koon’s cigarette remnants
Jasmine, Sarapee, and lotus pollens
Seven sacred relics
Fragments of ancient Lamphun amulets
108 sacred flower pollens
Sacred powder from renowned ancient amulets such as Phra Kong, Phra Rod, Phra Sam, and Phra Sibsong
All production and consecration procedures were performed at Wat Pun-Onn using traditional methods.
Blessing Ceremony
Luang Por Koon personally blessed the amulets throughout the entire Buddhist Lent period. Beginning on an auspicious Monday, he performed chanting and blessings twice daily—once after his morning alms round and again before retiring for the evening.
This consecration continued for the full three months of Buddhist Lent, making this one of the most thoroughly blessed herb-amulet batches associated with Luang Por Koon.
After completion, the amulets were distributed to devotees in Chiang Mai and later during the Kathina (Robe Offering) ceremony at Wat Pun-Onn.
The Extremely Rare Palm Leaf Powder Version
The rectangular half-figure mold is one of the rarest molds in the entire Wat Pun-Onn series, with fewer than 100 pieces produced.
This mold was created in only two materials:
Flower Pollen Powder
Palm Leaf Powder
Among collectors, the Palm Leaf Powder version is considered significantly rarer than the Flower Pollen Powder version, as only a very small number were produced. Genuine examples are seldom encountered today and are highly sought after by advanced Luang Por Koon collectors.
This award-winning amulet belongs to that exceptionally scarce Palm Leaf Powder group, making it one of the most difficult examples of the Wat Pun-Onn series to acquire.
The Wat Pun-Onn B.E. 2523 Series
The Wat Pun-Onn series consisted of approximately 6,000 amulets produced from 15 different molds, including various Luang Por Koon portrait amulets, Phra Pidta, Phra Khun Paen, Phra Somdej, Buddha images, rosaries, and Look Om.
Today, the Wat Pun-Onn B.E. 2523 series is recognized as one of the finest and most historically significant sacred herb amulet batches blessed by Luang Por Koon. Authentic examples have become increasingly difficult to find, and the series remains a regular category at major Thai amulet competitions throughout the country.
Because of its historical significance, limited production, extensive consecration period, and especially the rarity of the Palm Leaf Powder material, this amulet represents one of the most desirable and collectible pieces from the Wat Pun-Onn B.E. 2523 series.
