Going to a networking event? Don't just show up. Have a plan.
For us at Only Make Waves, networking isn't about collecting as many contacts as possible. It's about finding the right people, having meaningful conversations, and creating opportunities that can continue long after the event.
So here's our checklist:
Know why you're there.
Before walking into the room, know what you want to learn, who you want to meet, and what you want to achieve. We're heading to AWS Summit with a clear intention: learn, connect, and explore opportunities that can strengthen what we're building in Eswatini.
Connect, don't just pitch.
We're not going into the room trying to sell Only Make Waves to everyone we meet. We're going to listen, ask questions, understand what people are building, and find where our work intersects.
Follow up.
The real networking starts after the event. A LinkedIn connection, an email, a second conversation, a collaboration or even simply staying in touch can turn one introduction into something meaningful.
And that's how we're following this up.
We'll be documenting our journey to AWS Summit, the people we meet, the ideas we pick up, and the conversations that could open new doors for Only Make Waves and the creative and technology ecosystem we're building around.
The goal isn't to come back with a stack of business cards.
It's to come back with relationships worth building.
