Every year, we welcome Fire Starters from over 60 countries for an energising and uplifting weekend, with an eclectic programme featuring some of the finest musical and artistic talents from acr

oss Africa and around the globe. A conscious celebration of unity in diversity and an inspiring emblem of social inclusion, MTN Bushfire represents the kind of world we would all like to see – a global community of change-makers, thought leaders, and creative problem solvers who unite in a celebration of the arts and in the spirit of taking action against discrimination, environmental degradation and poverty.

• MTN Bushfire is delighted to have donated over ZAR 3m to our festival beneficiaries Young Heroes & boMake Rural Projects to date.
• In 2020, MTN Bushfire streamed and broadcast the first-ever MTN Bushfire Digital Festival to raise funds for our festival beneficiaries. Viewers from 63 countries tuned in, donating over ZAR 100,000 to help vulnerable youth and rural women in Eswatini.
• The MTN Bushfire Schools Festival is open to every Primary and High School in Eswatini, involving over 9,000 students and teachers since its foundation in 2010.
• Over 1,000 artists and acts from over 80 countries applied to perform at MTN Bushfire 2019.
• It takes more than 900 people to stage MTN Bushfire each year, including management, artists, security, catering and hospitality.
• MTN Bushfire 2019 contributed over ZAR 45m to the economy of Eswatini outside of the festival, according to an independent survey conducted by the North-West University in South Africa. In comparison, MTN Bushfire 2011 generated an estimated income of ZAR 12m in tourist receipts for Eswatini.

From crate-digging beginnings in 1984 to shaping dancefloors across decades, DJ BOB is a true custodian of sound. His journey winds through Yeoville’s live scene of the early ’90s, the iconic 206 Live and over two decades with OppiKoppi, while remaining a familiar force at MTN Bushfire.

A selector, curator and sonic storyteller, his sets glide effortlessly from jazz to Afrobeat, acid jazz to funk, stitched together with rare grooves, trip hop and breaks. Today, he keeps the flame alive with DJ Bob’s Jazz Club and THINK FUNK, bringing timeless rhythms to stages across South Africa.

From the shores of Amami Ōshima to global stages, she brings the soul of Shimauta into a bold, contemporary sound.

Trained from age three, she’s grown into an award-winning vocalist, with highlights from Les Misérables to collaborations across Europe and the U.S. Alongside Toshiyuki Sasaki, she fuses Shimauta with jazz, R&B, and hip-hop; creating a sound that transcends borders.

iYA Music returns to the MTN Bushfire festival. The eSwatini-born singer-songwriter is bringing her signature blend of soulful storytelling and genre-fluid sound.

Since her debut Straight Up and her collaboration with Grammy-winning Manana on In My Feels, iYa has carved out a bold, expressive lane across the region and beyond.
