It is with a heavy heart and profound sadness that the family of the late Sultan Gang Lual Thian announces to the public the peaceful passing of Major General Gatwec Gang Lual.

He passed away in the early hours of today, Tuesday, 12 August 2026, at Juba Teaching Hospital.

The family will keep the public informed about all arrangements and processes leading to the burial, including the place where his remains will be laid to rest.

Funeral Venue:
The funeral is taking place at the late’s residence at Jebel, behind Imatong Gas, next to WFP premises.

The family kindly urges everyone to refrain from speculation, rumors, and the dissemination of unsubstantiated information* regarding his passing.

It is with deep concern and pain that we address you today.

This afternoon in Camp 1, Juba, our beloved brother and writer, Mak Bangot, was taken by National Security.

Meer Leads Media has confirmed that the person who betrayed Mak is Wiyual Nyamer Riek, also known as the “Food Fighters of all funerals in Juba.

Mak Bangot is a man who has always stood for truth. He is the one who has always advised, warned, and confronted those who betray the Nuer community for personal gain. He spoke without fear. He wrote without favor. He defended our people, even when it was dangerous to do so.

And for that reason, those who are always looking for food, those who trade the dignity of our community for crumbs, have now turned a blind eye to him. They betrayed one of their own who dedicated his pen and voice to protecting the people.

Today we say it clearly, this is not just an arrest. This is an attack on truth, on conscience, and on the voice of Akobo.
