Govt in talks with Meta, TikTok to monetize South Sudanese content creators — Ateny

Minister of Information, Ateny Wek Ateny, says the government is engaging Meta and TikTok to enable monetization opportunities for local digital content creators.

According to Ateny, the discussions aim to allow South Sudanese creators to earn revenue directly from platforms such as Facebook, Instagram, and TikTok without relying on accounts registered in foreign countries.

For years, many South Sudanese creators have complained about the lack of monetization access despite producing content with large online audiences. Some creators reportedly use accounts based in countries where monetization services are supported in order to generate income.

The issue has become a growing concern within South Sudan’s digital community, with creators urging the government to intervene and negotiate with major tech companies.

If successful, the move could open new economic opportunities for influencers, media personalities, comedians, musicians, and other online creators across the country.

Civil Aviation Authority announces Air Traffic Management system and JIA control tower will finally be operational after years of inactivity

South Sudan’s aviation sector is set for a significant upgrade as the South Sudan Civil Aviation Authority (SSCAA) moves to operationalize its long-dormant Air Traffic Management (ATM) system and Juba International Airport control tower

For more than four years, the ATM system remained non-operational despite being in place, leaving a major gap in the country’s ability to effectively manage its airspace.

The breakthrough comes following efforts led by Presidential Envoy Adut Kiir Mayardit, whose support facilitated the necessary payments to activate the system.

SSCAA Director General Dr Ayiei Garang Deng Ayiei confirmed that the authority will transition to a new Air Traffic facility in the coming weeks, marking a major step forward for the sector.

The development is expected to restore full airspace management capability, improve aviation safety oversight, and align South Sudan with international aviation standards.
