First South Sudanese transgender woman graduates as registered nurse in the U.S.

The first South Sudanese man to become a woman, Layla Chan Duop, known online as Layla Kingston, has made history by graduating in the United States as a Registered Nurse (RN) becoming the first South Sudanese transgender woman to achieve this milestone.

Layla shared the news of her graduation on her page, expressing deep gratitude:

“I would like to express my sincere gratitude, first and foremost, to a higher power. Additionally, I extend my appreciation to our exceptional instructor, Amelia and Lecom, whose dedication to teaching is evident in the extensive knowledge we have acquired… To my esteemed classmates, you constitute a truly remarkable group, and the collaborative support and solidarity we have demonstrated are truly commendable.”

Layla completed her studies at LECOM (Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine), one of the top medical institutions in the U.S.

Registered nurses (RNs) play a critical role in healthcare, providing patient care, administering medications, and supporting doctors in treatment and recovery processes.
