Bahr el Ghazal, South Sudan โ€” A young street content creator known as Barmil Athurun has recently attracted growing attention on TikTok and local social media platforms after his distinctive walking performance began circulating widely online.

The trend is centered on Barmilโ€™s signature street walk style, where he performs a confident, exaggerated โ€œboss-likeโ€ stride with his arms extended outward, often in public spaces such as roads, markets, and community areas.

Unlike earlier interpretations that framed the movement as purely visual performance, sources within the online clips show that Barmil consistently uses a song by โ€œJoker NBAโ€ as background music for his videos.

The track is widely described by viewers as a self-praise or pride-themed song, focusing on themes of:

and self-identity
and reputation
known even without physical presence

Fans summarize its message as ideas like โ€œpeople donโ€™t see me, they only hear my voiceโ€ and expressions of being a โ€œbig figureโ€ or โ€œlegendโ€ in oneโ€™s environment.

The combination of the soundtrack and Barmilโ€™s performance style has helped the trend spread quickly. His walking clips are now being imitated by students, young creators, and even business people in markets and streets, who replicate both the movement and the attitude portrayed in the videos.

The trend has evolved into a form of social media street performance culture, where humor, confidence display, and entertainment overlap.

On platforms such as TikTok, the content continues to circulate under various edits and remixes. Some viewers describe it as comedic entertainment, while others interpret it as motivational expression tied to self-confidence and visibility in society.

In the region of Bahr el Ghazal, the trend reflects a growing pattern where local creators turn everyday street behavior into viral digital identity through music and movement.

Barmil Athurunโ€™s popularity highlights how quickly local creators can gain recognition through simple performance styles combined with recognizable soundtracks. As the trend continues to spread, it remains an example of how music-driven content can transform individual expression into shared cultural imitation online.

In the history of South Sudanโ€™s liberation struggle, there are names that will always be remembered because of their courage, sacrifice, and commitment to the people. One of those respected names is Maj. Gen. Victoria Adhardit Arop, widely known across the country as the โ€œMother of the Red Army.โ€ Her story is not only about war and sacrifice, but also about love, resilience, education, and leadership.

During the liberation struggle, many young boys and girls were taken to refugee camps and training centers in Ethiopia after being separated from their families because of war. These children later became known as the Red Army. Life in the camps was extremely difficult. There was hunger, fear, sickness, and uncertainty about the future. In the middle of those difficult conditions, Maj. Gen. Victoria Adhardit became a mother figure to many young soldiers and children.

Veterans who lived in the camps during those years remember her as a caring and disciplined woman who treated everyone equally regardless of tribe or background. She cooked for the children, advised them, comforted them, and encouraged them to remain strong during hard times. Many former Red Army members say she gave them hope when life felt hopeless. To them, she was more than a commander. She was a mother.

Her contribution to the struggle was recently remembered during the 43rd anniversary celebration of the SPLA/M held on May 16, where many veterans gathered to honor those who sacrificed for the freedom of South Sudan. Among the respected faces present was Maj. Gen. Victoria Adhardit Arop, a symbol of resilience and service.

What makes her story even more inspiring is that her journey did not end after liberation. While many people would choose to rest after years of sacrifice, Maj. Gen. Adhardit decided to continue fighting in a different way through education. Despite her age and responsibilities, she returned to school with determination and focus. In 2022, she graduated from the University of Juba with a Bachelor of Science degree in Public Administration.

Her achievement became an inspiration to many young South Sudanese, especially women and former fighters who believe it is too late to pursue education. She proved that learning has no age limit and that education remains one of the most powerful tools for nation building.

Today, her story carries an important message for the younger generation. The liberation struggle was not only about carrying guns in the bush. It was also about building a better future for the next generation. Maj. Gen. Victoria Adhardit Arop understands that the modern struggle is now fought through education, leadership, unity, and development.

At a time when many young people are searching for role models, her life stands as an example of sacrifice, humility, and determination. From caring for children during wartime in Ethiopia to earning a university degree decades later, Maj. Gen. Victoria Adhardit Arop continues to show South Sudan that true leadership is built through service to others and commitment to growth.

She remains a mother of the nation, not only because of what she did during the war, but because of the hope and wisdom she continues to share today.

South Sudanโ€™s Wildlife Resources: A Reason to Be Proud

South Sudan is a young nation, but it carries an ancient beauty. Beyond politics, beyond conflict, beyond the struggles people often hear about, there is another South Sudan โ€” a land breathing with life, color, movement, and natural wonder.

A land where rivers stretch like veins of life.
A land where birds rise with the morning sun.
A land where antelopes run across open plains in numbers that surprise the world.
A land where nature still speaks in its own voice.

Many people speak proudly about oil, gold, or minerals. Those resources matter. But wildlife is also wealth. In fact, it is one of the purest forms of wealth because once destroyed, it is difficult to replace. South Sudan has been blessed with wildlife resources that many countries only dream of having.

A Land Full of Living Beauty

In the grasslands and wetlands of South Sudan, life moves freely. Herds of white-eared kob migrate across the country in massive numbers. Tiang antelopes, gazelles, buffaloes, giraffes, elephants, zebras, lions, leopards, monkeys, crocodiles, and countless bird species still roam the land.

And this is not ordinary wildlife movement. South Sudan hosts one of the greatest animal migrations on Earth. Millions of animals move together across Boma and Bandingilo landscapes like a river of life flowing through the nation.

That alone should make South Sudanese proud.

Because while some countries preserve wildlife in small fenced parks, South Sudan still holds vast natural ecosystems where animals move almost freely across enormous lands. That is rare. That is special. That is a gift.

The Sudd: The Heartbeat of Nature

Then there is the great Sudd โ€” one of the largest wetlands in the world.

The Sudd is more than water and grass. It is life itself. It feeds fish to communities. It gives water to animals. It welcomes migratory birds. It cools the environment. It supports cattle keepers, fishermen, and farmers.

When the wind moves across the Sudd, it is like nature reminding the nation that life still exists in abundance.

National Parks That Carry Hope

South Sudan is blessed with beautiful protected areas like:

Boma National Park

Bandingilo National Park

Nimule National Park

Southern National Park

These places are not just forests and grasslands. They are national treasures. They carry stories of survival, beauty, and future opportunity.

One day, if peace and stability continue to grow, tourists from across the world could travel to South Sudan not only to hear its history, but to witness its breathtaking nature.

Hotels can grow. Jobs can grow. Tourism can grow. Conservation can grow. Communities can benefit. Young people can find opportunities in photography, tour guiding, environmental science, filmmaking, and wildlife protection.

Nature can become part of national recovery.

Why People Should Be Proud

South Sudanese should be proud because wildlife is part of identity.

The strength of the lion.
The patience of cattle.
The speed of antelopes.
The wisdom people learn from birds, rivers, forests, and seasons.

For generations, communities have sung songs about animals, named children after natural symbols, and learned lessons from the environment. Nature has always been part of culture.

Wildlife also reminds the country of something important: despite hardship, beauty still exists.

Even after years of suffering, the land still produces life. Birds still sing. Rivers still flow. Animals still migrate. Trees still grow. Morning still comes.

That is hope.

The Duty to Protect It

But pride must walk together with responsibility.

Wildlife should not disappear because of greed, careless hunting, deforestation, pollution, or conflict. A nation that destroys its environment slowly destroys its own future.

Young people especially have a role to play:

Protect forests

Avoid illegal hunting

Support conservation

Keep rivers clean

Speak proudly about nature

Promote eco-tourism and environmental awareness

Because protecting wildlife is not just about animals.

It is about protecting beauty.
Protecting heritage.
Protecting future generations.
Protecting the soul of the nation.

South Sudan is not empty land. It is living land. And its wildlife is one of the strongest reminders that the country still carries greatness waiting to rise.

By Akol Arop Jr.

Some actions we take are for humanity, others for loyalty, and some for patriotism. During times of pressure and public scrutiny, a professional's true character emerges. This is revealed not by the absence of challenges but by how one behaves when faced with them.

Security operations around Heads of State rank among the most sensitive duties in the world. They require discipline, alertness, coordination, and unwavering loyalty. Sometimes, misunderstandings arise during high-level events, especially when multiple security teams from different countries are present. Such situations should always be handled with maturity, professionalism, and respect.

During the swearing-in ceremony of H.E. Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, President of the Republic of Uganda, one individual unexpectedly captured public attention: Machol Lual Akok, the bodyguard of H.E. Salva Kiir Mayardit, President of the Republic of South Sudan.

Videos circulating online showed confusion regarding movement toward the VIP section and the positioning of security personnel. Such moments are not unusual at international state functions. Protocols differ between countries, and coordination between host security and visiting presidential guards can be challenging.

As a visiting Head of State, it is understandable that President Salva Kiirโ€™s close protection officers would want to personally es**rt him to his seat before stepping back. This is the sacred duty of presidential guards everywhere. Loyalty and responsibility do not stop because cameras are present or certain things to do with clothing happen.

What impressed many observers was the professionalism shown by Lt. Col. Machol Lual Akok. Even after his suit jacket was torn during the commotion, he remained focused, composed, and dedicated to his mission: protecting his President. He did not let a damaged suit distract him. He continued to monitor the environment and es**rt the Head of State with discipline and courage.

This is not a sign of embarrassment; but a sign of dedication.

Unfortunately, it was disappointing to see some social media users, bloggers, and media outlets in Uganda, and even among South Sudanese, mock and ridicule the incident. Public humiliation, insults, and political bullying over a security situation do not reflect patriotism, African brotherhood, or professionalism.

A torn jacket does not lessen a nation's dignity. In fact, history remembers those who remain committed under pressure, not those who mock from the sidelines.

True patriots defend their country's image and honor. South Sudan needs disciplined and loyal officers who put duty above appearance. Uganda and South Sudan deserve citizens who promote unity, respect, and mutual understanding instead of negativity and division.

Lt. Col. Machol Lual Akok exhibited loyalty, courage, and professionalism under public scrutiny. For that, he deserves recognition, not mockery.

Congratulations, patriotic son of South Sudan. Our nation needs dedicated men and women like you.
