The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has unanimously reaffirmed its support for FIFA president Gianni Infantino, following the collapse of his controversial plan to sell stakes in the World Cup.

In a statement after a meeting of its executive committee, CAF thanked Infantino for his years of backing for African football and welcomed FIFA's apology over the scheme.

CAF president Patrice Motsepe said the confederation "welcomes and endorses" FIFA's pledge to review the process, while stressing that good governance and transparency remain non-negotiable.

Africa's backing offers Infantino a crucial lifeline as he battles the fiercest revolt of his presidency and prepares to seek re-election in 2027.

It stands in stark contrast to European football's governing body, UEFA, which has kept alive its threat to boycott FIFA competitions despite the apology.

Accused No. 4 prays for his release, declares his innocence

Gabriel Duop Lam, the 4th Accused in the Nasir Incident trial before the Special Court, on Monday pleaded with the court to order his release.
He maintained that he is innocent of all charges brought against him.

Concluding his defence, Lam told the court that he had been wrongly prosecuted and urged the judges to deliver what he described as a fair and impartial judgment based solely on the evidence before the court.

"I respectfully pray that this Honourable Court restore my rights and order my release so that I may reunite with my family, who have endured severe economic hardship during my detention," Lam said.

He argued that the prosecution had failed to present documentary or forensic evidence linking him to the alleged offences and maintained that the charges against him were politically motivated.

"I therefore reject these fabricated allegations because they do not reflect my actions, patriotism, discipline, ethical conduct, military professionalism, or national character," he told the court.

Lam also maintained that he was not involved in the Nasir incident, telling the court that he was sitting his final-year examinations at the University of Juba at the time of the events while on authorized study leave.

"Before I Was Born, There Was Hunger in Nigeria," President Tinubu Says

Nigerian President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has said that hunger existed in Nigeria long before he was born, urging citizens to embrace farming and work hard to improve food production.

Speaking on the country's food situation, Tinubu said hunger is a long-standing challenge that cannot be solved by the government alone.

"Before I was born, there was hunger in this country, and I have no control over the trajectory of Nigeria's population development," President Tinubu said.

He encouraged Nigerians to cultivate more land and increase food production, saying agriculture is one of the best ways to fight hunger.

The president also said that changing leaders alone will not end food insecurity.

"Even if I leave office, hunger will not disappear from Nigeria if people do not cultivate and produce food," he said.

Tinubu called on citizens to support efforts to increase agricultural production, saying both the government and the people have a role to play in addressing hunger in the country.
