Yigi Yigi released from Libya detention, thanks supporters
Comedian Yigi Yigi says he has been released from detention in Libya after days of appealing for support from followers while being held during a migration journey toward Europe.
In a Facebook post shared on Monday, Yigi Yigi announced his release and thanked supporters who stood by him throughout the ordeal. His detention had drawn widespread attention on social media after he posted photos and videos from what appeared to be a crowded detention facility in Libya.
“Today, I'm finally out of prison. Thank you to everyone who prayed for me, supported me, and wished for my freedom,” Yigi Yigi wrote. “Your love, messages, and encouragement meant a lot during this difficult time.”
The comedian also acknowledged Brig. Gen. Angui, popularly known as Mike Mike for his support during the period of detention.
“A special Big Salute goes to Brig General Angui, also known as the Youth General, for the support and encouragement,” he said.
Yigi Yigi did not disclose the circumstances of his release or provide details on how it was secured. The entertainer said he is now preparing for a new chapter after his release.
