Accused No. 4 Gabriel Duop Lam Maintains Innocence, Appeals for Release
Gabriel Duop Lam, the fourth accused in the ongoing Nasir Incident trial before the Special Court, has appealed to the court to order his release, insisting that he is innocent of all charges against him.
While concluding his defense on Monday, Lam told the court that he had been wrongly prosecuted and urged the judges to make their decision based only on the evidence presented during the trial.
"I respectfully ask this Honorable Court to restore my rights and order my release so that I can reunite with my family, who have suffered serious economic hardship during my detention," Lam told the court.
Lam argued that the prosecution had failed to provide documentary or forensic evidence linking him to the alleged offenses. He also claimed that the charges against him were politically motivated.
He further rejected all the allegations, saying they do not reflect his conduct, professionalism, or commitment to serving the country.
Addressing the court, Lam said he was not involved in the Nasir incident, stating that he was sitting his final-year examinations at the University of Juba and was on authorized study leave at the time the incident occurred.
The trial is expected to continue as the Special Court hears the remaining defense statements.
