BETWEEN YESTERDAY AND TODAY.
Simeon K✍️

He pleaded with immense passion
for her to stay with them;
His knees dead low to the ground
Hands like one praying "The Lord's Prayer"
As oceans came off his eyes
Asking his lover to stay, not leave.

Rage choked my throat watching him,
As thoughts and resolves queued my mind.
He paid the bills and fed their bellies
His presence an illuminating resonance,
Every woman would run to have him to herself
So, why should he stoop so low?

That moment, I spoke in silent serious profession:
I will never ever repeat this disgrace of manhood.
If love were to force me to, I will cut its grip off me
And find another and start again;
if only I were to love again.

Little did I know, in the morning a similar tale
awaits my inexperienced mind
Maybe, one worst than his.
We were just young lovers, few months old
Like a blink, something happened, it origin unknown
I watched her go, ignited by the resolves of old.

Today, an emptiness fill my soul
An inexplicable yearning desecrates my sanity
Like emissaries sent by destiny.
Maybe, they are here to teach lessons
To give me a piece of wisdom.

I stand between the fences of judgements,
With a void so deep;
To hold to those resolutions of old
Or, journey to her like the prodigal son
And seek her forgiveness to fill this hollow within
And restore this heart from destruction.

There are some promises that will inevitably go unfulfilled, whether intentionally or unintentionally.

Do you agree?

THE WARS I FOUGHT ALONE AND CONQUERED.
Simeon K ✍️

I wrestled with hunger;
A duel fierce than the strike of a thunder
At first, its claws squeezed so tight
Forcing my resilience to give up the fight
But I yanked my spirit
Raised my head above Heaven's seat
And overcame its grip
Now, it has no power over me.

With heartbreak, I fought again
A warfare fierce than the one in Ukraine
At first, it suffered my soul to subdue it
As its venom venomed through my being like a scorching heat
Yes, the war was ferocious within and outside in every bit;
It drained my weight and desecrated my sanity
But again, I shook my head and aligned my soul in silence
Tuned to fresh thoughts and summoned my resilience
And surmounted its grip
Now, it has no power over me.

After that, I wrestled again
This time, disappointment, failure, & neglect were the assassins
Sent from the Hell's pits to erase my being;
They wared on me like waves to sea
And like the devil, my end they sought to see
But, I learnt their lessons and owned their arts;
Head raised to the vision and prayed with my heart
There, I overcame their grip
Now they have no power over me.

Indeed, I fought all these wars yesterday
And conquered each like one anointed in special ways
Oh yes, I was at the warfront yesterday;
So, I write like a brave soldier today
Of these battles, so you may know and praise
And learn from my skills when you face them someday
Hear me oh Lord, I thank you for these wars
For I've learned the wisdom of ages for my tomorrow:
They and their likes will never have power over me.

SHE BETRAYED MY FRIEND
BY: Simeon K.

She thrashed their golden memories
Into the Atlantic to perish;
Overlooking the good stories,
And the anguish it'll breed into my friend's soul.
Then, in a jet's speed, she accepted another
And opened her heart to him.

My friend wailed to pour out this pain she had caused;
To unload his thoughts of this sudden misery
And to mend his broken soul.
The tears dried out like it never came
Yet, the pains still live
The memories they created still echo loud
In his ears breeding unrest to his being.

Has Heaven's smile shunned my friend's path
That this sorrow will dawn on him now?
How can the one he hoped to bear his unborn
Pierce him so cruelly with the sword of dishonesty?
How can his life's love repay his love with a stab on his trust?

That day, as I watched his young broken face
I wept for my friend, not only him
But for all of us, men around the globe.
Just as my friend who gave his all to this lady,
But took all his good strides as rubbish
We fall victims to their cunning deceit daily.
Let's be wise to trust and be slow to profess love
Women can also suffer this, so, be wise too.

Who will mend my friend's soul
With the true essence of love?
I hope she comes soon to fill his emptiness.

THANK YOU, GREAT MOTHERS OF OUR LAND.
BY:
Simeon K ✍️

To the singers of the first song
that smooth our ears and lured our eyes to sleep
Thank you for being there when our innocence needed you most;
You showed us then the true essence of love.

Oh today, I pay tribute to breast that gave us life
To the arms that gave warmth to our bodies
Thank you for being our lifesavers;
You satisfied our hunger while you starved
You taught us how to adapt and face life, bold.

Indeed, to the mothers of this nation
Not only you, but those of Africa too
Thank you for being the hope and treasure of our land.
Your sparkling presence radiates our identity
Just like how your words inspired the greatness of Nelson Mandela,
They still continue to Inspire the steps of each of us
Thank you great women of this land.

Oh today, I, a grateful son writes
Echoing not only my voice
But each line, an embodiment of a thousand;
Those of my fellow brothers and sisters too
In the refrain: thank you.
For the pain of yesterday, today and tomorrow
Thank you
For the joy of of watching us grow and become great
Thank you our beloved mothers.

Happy Mother's DAY OUR GREAT MOTHERS💕
To my super mother, I love ❤️

CHRIST HAS RISEN!

Let the moon, the sun, and the stars
Hear it
Let the birds of the air, and even the oceans
Speak of it
The LORD has risen!

I'll sing to all who breathe,
He who has ears.
I'll echo the pleasing sounds of infinity
The fulfillment of the ages
CHRIST HAS RISEN!

Now, the heavens are rejoicing
Those under the earth in victory
For the eternal light has conquered all
And has left Fierce Death now powerless.
And unto His own, dominion He has given CHRIST, the Lord has Risen!

TOGETHER FOR MAMA SALONE
BY: Simeon K ✍️
(Inspired by Leone Stars' 3-1 victory against Guinea Bissau)

It is not the 3-1 victory that took my breath
And sent my thoughts into an errand of deep awe.
Nor is it the joy of watching my darling Leone Stars
Gracing the pitch and subduing it like true sons of my land;
None of these did not capture my thoughts that day.

What caught me was the resounding unity;
The players played their hearts out like never before
To every echo of Coach Kallon, they fought the more
I saw unity in their eyes thirsting for results
It burned like a furnace fueling their vision.

That day turning round the cinema, my heart rejoiced;
Everyone prayed the same prayer
Agitated the same agitation
And sang the same song cheering our darling Leone Stars
This really captured my soul that day.

I saw unity within the streets of Freetown;
The traders leaving their businesses
And drivers packing their vehicles
To support the imperfections of our team.
And to every goal, the stones, everyone, joined in one echo to celebrate the boys.

That day, I understood the power of unity
The players played in unity and delivered with precision
And us from home, took off our tribalistic robes
Off our religious hats and replaced them with Mama Salone
So, we enjoyed together the victory of our prayers.

Let us learn the lessons of that day:
Together we surmount all hills
And together we bring down every wall.
And like that day, let us join hands and minds to develop this place
For together, we can just like Leone Stars thrashing Guinea Bissau that day.

BETWEEN ERASURE AND YEARNING
BY: Simeon K ✍️.

Her pictures that blissed his gallery
Those sweet messages in his inbox
And the videos that erased his frowns;
He deleted them like a fool
Hoping he would erase memories of her.

He did not only stop there,
He stoped the reels that inspired him to strive:
The feeds that blazed his morning;
unfriended her on Facebook, muted on Whatsapp like a fool
Hoping he would extinguish memories of her.

Then, he turned to himself
To offload his thoughts of her presence
To assassinate the good pictures they made queueing his head
He tried, but every attempt was a dagger piercing his soul,
rather than mending it.

When you read this poem
Know that a poet's friend still yearns for you.
May the thirst to reunite bestowed in this piece,
Speak of Simran's love for you once again, Salisha.
Come and fill this hollow you left in him
To prevent the nemesis of your absence, Salisha.

Note: This is a fictional work and my characters too.

ENOUGH WITH THE MANY CONFERENCES!
By: Simeon K.

Hear their hopeful resonances;
Identifying the problems, one by one
Within these walls, just as it was done yesterday.
We listened to these same syllables seated here
as they promised our redemption;
A land free from the grip of the corrupt.

Within these walls,
They paint this place a Heaven to the world
Carefully stifling the pangs of the people,
And their failure to erase our frowns, just as they did yesterday.
We sat here listening to their familiar sounds
Feeding our fragile minds with lies.

And within these same walls they gather daily,
Drowning the economy in shared stipends
Just the same way they did yesterday.
The purpose of the assembly professed
Reflect contrary to the true intent
Just as how we listened to them, hoping for a different story,
Yet, thier speeches are as familiar as our right hands.

Tell my angry soul the essence of these gatherings;
when inflation still soar like birds untamed
when the economy continues to dry out at every dawn
when students are still chased from exams for tuition fees
when the poor still lie unprotected before the law
And when the streets are still preyed by evil
What are all these many summits for?

Until our eyes see the changes,
And skins feel the impart of these meetings
Not just listening to your voices of a better now
That are scripted in those pages of report
Like the ones we listened to yesterday
Enough with these idleness!
And let your good works be felt by all of us, like the morning breeze.
