Back in the early 2000s, gaming in Sierra Leone wasn’t about big screens, fast internet, or fancy setups.
It lived in small neighbourhood cafés and corner shops old box TVs on wooden tables, Nintendo consoles, then PS2 and PS3 driven purely by passion and curiosity.
These spaces became more than gaming spots. They were after-school hangouts and community hubs, where friendships were built, rivalries were formed, and skills like focus, teamwork, and discipline were quietly developed long before we ever called it esports. Gaming had already become a tradition for many young people across the country.
This photo captures the roots of that journey. Today, that same passion is evolving into a structured movement. Through the Electronic Sport Federation Sierra Leone (ESFSL), gaming is being positioned as a recognized sport, a career pathway, and a tool for digital empowerment and youth development.
Our vision is to see Sierra Leonean gamers compete nationally and internationally, create new digital opportunities, and turn passion into purpose.
Join the movement. Support the growth of esports in Sierra Leone. Follow ESFSL and be part of the future.
