I’m Emma, the artist behind Awaken Studios.
I believe that art is powerful. I believe it has the potential to deepen our connection with ourselves - to make ourselves more aware of our emotions, invite us to slow down and be present. My vision behind Awaken Studios is to use art to awaken our spirits to greater hope, gratitude and contentment.
Art has always been an avenue for me to express myself visually when words fail. Creating offers me an opportunity to discover myself in act of creating, to heal and the grow.
I seek to render my experiences, feelings and hopes into paintings that resonate with others. While each painting is different, all capture bits of my heart. My artworks are visually abstract because I believe that abstraction liberates us to most fully and purely encounter ourselves - ask yourself: how does this instinctively make me feel? What does it make me think of? How can I use this expression to deeper understand myself as well as my relationship with the world around me?
Awaken Studios first began when I showed some friends the paintings under my bed and observed how the works could make them feel something, be it a little happier or more hopeful. That was something I wanted to offer to the world.
Thank you for joining me, and I hope you enjoy your stay!
Love,
Emma
Inspiration
I render my own emotions and spirit into a painting and invite you to discover what feelings it realizes in your own spirit, what memories it resurfaces and what new ideas it sparks. This is motivated by my desire to guide you to more deeply encounter yourself and see the world a little richer.
For me, the works often represent hope, presence and contentment. But the stories don’t end there, because storytelling is a dynamic process. It is constantly being built through dialogue and conversation. So share with me! What’s your story?
My paintings feature bright and pastel colours in a variety of dynamic brushstrokes and gestures. The colours and textures are often inspired by mother nature - by flowers or the sea. I view art to have the same potential as nature in inviting us to be present and contemplate, and seek to use my paintings to invite you to be slow down.
Taking Form
As I continued to experiment and develop my personal style, the meaning I found in painting developed and changed as well. It became centred around the themes of hope and healing, opening my eyes to the incredible capacity of art to touch and encourage the human spirit in its suffering.
The vision behind Awaken Studios shifted from using art as a tool for free visual storytelling to one that encourage and inspired contentment, rest and hope. My paintings are now all characterized by vibrant colours and energetic brushstrokes, seeking to invite you to pause, simply be, and hopefully deeper connect with your spirit in the process.
