🔺 There is something about Swatti Kapoor that we have always loved — and perhaps it is the restraint. Even when the clothes are rich with colour, textile, embroidery and detail, they never feel like they are trying too hard.
🔺 Miras feels particularly special. Ajrakh sits alongside brocade, Muga silk, metallic embroidery and the language of the sari — textiles and techniques with histories of their own, brought together without losing the hand or the humanity behind them.
🔺 And then there are these colours. Madder, rust, old gold, dusty rose, deep red, earthy browns — festive, yes, but in that wonderfully understated way we keep coming back to. Quiet clothes with a lot to say.
🔺 Perhaps that is why Swatti Kapoor has always done so well at Canvas & Weaves. There is a reverence for the textile and for the people who make it, but never at the expense of making clothes you actually want to wear.

✨ Well, it’s official. We have a new home. Save the date.
✨ Right now, it’s wonderfully empty. Over the next couple of weeks, we’ll slowly make it ours — filling it with art, textiles, fashion, objects, conversations and all the things that have come to define Canvas & Weaves.
✨ And we couldn’t think of a better way to open the doors than with a Festive Pop-Up. Two days, a seriously good curation, some of our favourite designers, and brands coming to Singapore for the very first time. This one is going to be special — you really don’t want to miss it.

✨ With the festive season creeping up on us, I went looking through the archives and found, rather reassuringly, that my rules for dressing up haven’t changed very much.
1 → The saree doesn’t need to be draped to architectural perfection. A few creases are fine. A pallu that has acquired a life of its own over the course of an evening is also fine. Clothes should record the evening, not survive it untouched.
2 → I do need craft. A handwoven textile, an unexpected weave, a little gota, something made slowly or touched by hand. But never craft as gratuitous decoration. I like it when it has intent …when it is intrinsic to the garment rather than simply added to make something look “festive”.
3 → And increasingly, I think my greatest luxury is ease. Give me a jumpsuit with a little gota patti that lets me sit cross-legged with my friends, refill someone’s glass, disappear into the kitchen, come back out, and actually be a good host. That, to me, is considerably more glamorous than spending an evening adjusting my clothes.
✨ Perhaps that is my version of festive dressing: a certain nonchalance. Something considered but not contrived. A little ceremony, without the costume. Craft without clutter. Clothes with presence, but very little fuss. Because the best clothes, surely, are the ones that allow you to forget about them and get on with having a really good evening.
