I’ve lingered over some pictures from last year, searching for the right words.
In the time I’ve been blessed to observe these souls, I’ve witnessed something rare: a devotion to Allah and His Beloved ﷺ that doesn’t harden but softens, that doesn’t separate but unites.
They pursue knowledge with dedication, they call people toward their Creator with unwavering conviction, yet their faith expresses itself through gentleness, never harshness.
They don’t mock or coerce.
They invite with tenderness, understanding that true religiosity and compassion aren’t separate paths but one.
They carry their humanity with grace, acknowledging their own fragility even as they dedicate themselves to something greater.
And now, one among them has answered the final call, returning to our Lord and to the presence of our Beloved ﷺ.
He left this world as he lived. A book of knowledge cradled in his hands, in the midst of journeying to Surabaya to continue his life’s work of calling people home to Allah.
Sayyidil Habib Umar bin Hamid Al-Jailani, the Shafi’i M***i of Makkah Al-Mukarramah.
May Allah subhanahu wa ta’ala wrap his family, his students, and all who loved him in solace.
May He ease the weight of this loss upon the Ummah.
May Allah subhanahu wa ta’ala envelope his soul in infinite mercy, accept every moment he spent in service, and grant him the highest companionship, with his illustrious forefather Shaykh Abdul Qadir Al-Jailani, and ultimately, in the radiant presence of our Beloved, RasulAllah ﷺ.
