I am so taken by Balinese artist Budi Agung Kuswara aka Kabul’s sumptuous artwork. He was trained in the tradition of Kamasan painting, where with natural pigments colors are applied on textile or other materials. Kamasan paintings are rich in storytelling. They are usually meant to teach morals to the next generation. But Kabul took this traditional technique to a whole new level by reshaping the genre and therefore being paramount for forging a new way of Balinese contemporary art.
While appreciating the island’s rich culture and tradition, he waves new elements and objects into it and thus telling another story. With his signature shade of blue, he creates a hypnotic trip into Balinese identity.
Kabul feels that art is a potent medium for healing and self empowerment. Together with his life partner, Singaporean artist Mintio, they are the creative force behind the meaningful , which promotes mental health and wellbeing.

The last 2 paintings above can be found .sg in Kreta Ayer.
Enjoy Kabul’s art and the amazing stories you can find within.
