Tradition folded into modern spaces. 🎏✨

I was working on a Japanese-themed collaboration proposal and developed these pieces to capture the iconic symbols of Japanese culture: the strength of the carp streamers, the elegance of the traditional fan and the grace of the kimono.

I never like to stick to just one form of art. In fact, this is exactly how I got started and it has since become my signature style—positioning traditional origami shapes onto a structured backdrop and transforming them into dimensional, mixed-media ‘paintings.’ The textured Yuzen and Chiyogami papers act as my medium, bringing shadow, colour and depth to the canvas.

I’ve been immersed in these cheery, bright tones while working on a new mockup.

It was a beautiful coincidence to see those same colours reflected in these tulips at Gardens by the Bay last month. A lovely reminder that when we focus on beauty in our work, we start to see it everywhere else, too.

Zooming in. 🔍

Following that sneak peek of the Uniquely Singapore trishaw, I wanted to share my progress.

Conceptualisation wasn’t easy—I ended up adding another medium for the trishaw itself. Building this requires a different kind of pace—working with green coils and precision tools to ensure every structural fold holds its weight.

It is in these quiet, macro moments where the logic of the piece really comes together.

🛠️ Current status: Still WIP
🎨 Mediums: Chiyogami paper (roof); Coil (main structure)

I’m excited to share a sneak peek of a new series of Uniquely Singapore objects, starting with this iconic trishaw.

Working on its roof today but I can’t quite decide which one of these vibrant orange Yuzen papers is the best fit!
