Presenting Scopeout: A micro-series about meaningful events in Singapore.

Our first episode is on the recently concluded digital festival - Power Play 2020: Invisible Lines. They featured a slew of local and international artists that incorporated themes of power, control, and inequality in their creations.

We offer our two cents of reflection on our experience at their exclusive media preview. The exhibits are still available digitally on powerplay.sg.

Coming up next at 4pm SGT is Clementine Bedos 's Manifesting Shakti Workshop! Sign up now (if you haven't done so) to attend this exclusive online workshop via Zoom at https://manifesting-shakti.peatix.com/ ๐Ÿงก

Ta**ra transformed South Asiaโ€™s major religions, and today elements of it can still be found across Asiaโ€™s diverse cultures. However, it remains largely misunderstood in the West, where it is usually equated with s*x. Ta**ra is a sacred philosophy which affirms all aspects of the material world as infused with divine feminine power : โ€˜shaktiโ€™. It validates the body and the sensual as a means of achieving liberation and generating power. It is based on non-dual thinking and as such is particularly relevant when approaching questions of representation regarding gender, s*xuality and identity.

For Power Play: Invisible Lines, I invite all to join a 2h30min workshop hosted on Zoom. In the first part of the workshop, we will focus on harnessing our Qi, circulating energy around the body through visualisation, movement and sound. The second part of this workshop will focus on manifesting this energy through mark-making. We will create a collective drawing of our energetic connection.

In preparation for this workshop, please ensure that you are in a safe space and make yourself extra comfortable. This can be through simple things eg preparing a cup of tea, light some candles, closing blinds/curtains, removing your socks or adding an extra layerโ€ฆ

Wear comfortable clothes in which you feel good about yourself. Make sure no one will disturb you during the session & that you have enough alone time after the session to integrate what came up.

Prepare some paper or a notebook & something to draw with~

We all know the story of ๐˜›๐˜ฉ๐˜ฆ ๐˜Œ๐˜ฎ๐˜ฑ๐˜ฆ๐˜ณ๐˜ฐ๐˜ณ๐˜ด ๐˜•๐˜ฆ๐˜ธ ๐˜Š๐˜ญ๐˜ฐ๐˜ต๐˜ฉ๐˜ฆ๐˜ด by Hans Christian Andersen : a vain emperor is hoodwinked by two 'weavers' who claim being able to make a cloth invisible to those who are stupid or incompetent.

One after the other, the emperor and his ministers, fearful to lose the position they held, praised the magnificence of the cloth they could not see. When the emperor parades in his new clothes, the con seems to trick everybody whilst self-doubt and fear of humiliation is spreading like a virus through the crowd. Until a child says : 'But the Emperor has nothing at all on!'

The ability of some in the tale to see the invisible cloth points at the successful enchantment of the people by authorities. The regalia is acting as a veil of ignorance enveloping the people in a powerful charm.

By revisiting this famous folktale, Cleฬmentine invites you to reconnect with your inner child. She will be guiding you through a ta***ic journey, into the depths of your imagination, to the source of your will power. Ta**ra comes from Sanskrit ๐˜ต๐˜ข๐˜ฏ๐˜ต๐˜ณ๐˜ข๐˜ฎ which literally means ๐˜ญ๐˜ฐ๐˜ฐ๐˜ฎ. It is about merging the mind, the body and the spirit, about being 'independent' or a person who is their own ๐˜ธ๐˜ฆ๐˜ข๐˜ท๐˜ฆ๐˜ณ. It is a sacred philosophy that teaches self-empowerment through transgression.

To go deeper, Cleฬmentine is inviting you for a 2h30 workshop entitled โ€˜๐— ๐—”๐—ก๐—œ๐—™๐—˜๐—ฆ๐—ง๐—œ๐—ก๐—š ๐—ฆ๐—›๐—”๐—ž๐—ง๐—œโ€™. This will be hosted on Zoom on the 7th of November. In this workshop, we will explore how to harness Qi and will use mark-making to manifest our invisible connection.

Happening today! Join Nicole Phua .pjj in her None Other Ness workshop at 7.30pm SGT! Sign up now (if you haven't already done so) to attend this exclusive online workshop via Zoom at https://none-other-ness.peatix.com/ ๐Ÿงก

As an extension of None Other Ness performance piece (catch it on powerplay.sg link in bio), this workshop introduces the term Otherness and the ways of perception in society. The concept of acknowledging the many differences between people and self, and being able to comprehend it instead of creating this separation of different groups like race and gender. This workshop is an attempt to induce self reflection through three ways - being, seeing and understanding. Originally meant to be an interactive and performative workshop, now condensed into a 1-hour online interface through screens and objects from home. With the use of reflective objects easily found in a home, this simple performative activity of building a looking self through various views of the physical body seeks to help bring participants into perspective of issues of discrimination and the act of differentiation.

Catch Clementine Bedo's performance again on our IG live (.sg) this Friday at 9pm SGT!

We all know the story of 'The Emperor's New Clothes' by Hans Christian Andersen: a vain emperor is hoodwinked by two 'weavers' who claim being able to make a cloth invisible to those who are stupid or incompetent. The emperor and his ministers, fearful to lose the position they held, praised the magnificence of the cloth they could not see. When the emperor parades in his new clothes, the con seems to trick everybody whilst self-doubt and fear of humiliation is spreading like a virus through the crowd. Until a child says: 'But the Emperor has nothing at all on!'

The ability of some in the tale to see the invisible cloth points at the successful enchantment of the people by authorities. The regalia is acting as a veil of ignorance enveloping the people in a powerful charm. By revisiting this famous folktale, Clรฉmentine invites audiences to reconnect with your inner child through a ta***ic journey, into the depths of their imagination, to the source of their will power. Ta**ra comes from Sanskrit tantram which literally means 'loom'. It is about merging the mind, the body and the spirit, about being 'independent' or a person who is their own 'weaver'. It is a sacred philosophy that teaches self-empowerment through transgression.
