About the Artwork:
TR_ _ _ “O”
This artwork delves into the journey of pursuing goals within the cyclical nature of life, drawing inspiration from Yeow’s poem where the dragon forms an ‘O’. Comprising a series of figures crafted from lemons, wire, and metal parts, each element symbolizes different aspects of this pursuit. The head of each figure is made from a lemon, representing “Energy” — a nod to the vigor and zest required in chasing ambitions. The body, constructed from metal, signifies the structure and strength needed in this endeavor. Surrounding the lemon head are continuous ‘O’ shaped wires, symbolizing the human mind’s fixation on achieving perfection in goals. This concept of striving resonates through various stages of life, from the simplicity of completing an exam in childhood to tackling complex tasks in adulthood. Each figure, a fusion of organic and inorganic materials, embodies the essence of perseverance and the continuous loop of aspirations that define the human experience.
As part of Traces of Dragons, Lemonaide has created Dragonball:Goku, an OJ-ade Espresso (Orange + Lemon + Espresso) which is available for purchase until 25 February.

The Green Capsule x Jeremy Hiah

About the Brand:
The Green Capsule was founded in 2014 by two green enthusiasts. Together, we want to bring our love for greening to new heights. About the Artist:
Jeremy Hiah is an interdisciplinary artist and curator whose work questions the social systems with the use of satires. His practice includes sculptures, installations, and performances, and active collaborations with artists across different fields.

About Artwork:
Imagine Dragons

The theme about art and nature has often directed us to what is found in reality. By using recycled objects such as utensils and cutleries as the materials for the sculpture, and parts of ‘dragonesque’ insects, the artist questions if imaginary creatures such as dragons really belong solely to culture. Like Yeow’s poem, the ability to make associations and read symbols and create metaphors are often what distinguish the visions in art and literature from what we see in mundane reality. Art is just not a reflection of reality and nature, but the reality of the reflection, where the truth is in what we believe we could see.

About the Work:
The dragons are described in the poem ‘On the Trail of the Dragon’ by Yeow in different depictions. ‘A Tale of Tails’ plays on the layering of off-cut fabrics to create the visual of the scales of a dragon’s body and its trailing tail, each piece representing a different understanding of the dragon in different cultures and stories, and collectively forming how we perceive the dragon in the modern day. The installation is intended as a spatial and experiential one, where viewers can view the piece from outside the shopfront, or alternatively invited to step into the installation as a photo opportunity.
In addition to the installation, a unique apparel piece, inspired by the collaborative artwork, will be available for purchase. Co-designed by Barehands and The Ochre Home, this apparel piece is meticulously handcrafted by Afghan refugees based in Malaysia, adding a touch of global craftsmanship to the local art scene. The collaboration is a harmonious blend of artistry, sustainability, and cultural exchange.

LiHO TEA x Arrvin Raj

About the Brand:
“How are you?” is a familiar and common phrase used in most languages. It is a phrase used to reflect the concern for one’s well-being. Translating this phrase into the Chinese dialect, Hokkien, is LiHO TEA 里喝茶 our brand name.
We take pride in our name as it celebrates Singapore as a melting pot of culture. A simple greeting of LiHO is a great way for individuals to bond and it is even better with a cup of Singapore’s home grown tea brand, LiHO TEA.

About the Artist:
Arrvin is a Singapore-based multidisciplinary artist. In his performances, photography, painting, sculpture, and installation, he delves into the human condition, focusing on social phenomena, psychology, and interpersonal dynamics.

About the Artwork:
Pearlfection Joy aims to celebrate the joy and playfulness associated with enjoying bubble tea. By blending traditional symbolism with a contemporary experience, the artwork invites viewers to partake in a visual adventure, where the act of sipping through a straw becomes a whimsical journey with a mythical companion. Taking the abstract form of a Chinese dragon in pursuit of a pearl as its starting point, the artwork gracefully reflects on the intricate tapestry of human life. It serves as a poignant reminder that our pursuits, akin to the dragon’s chase, are a dynamic and cyclical journey. As one goal is attained, a new “pearl” emerges on the horizon, emphasising the perpetual nature of aspirations. Much like the ouroboros in Yeow’s poem, symbolising eternal renewal, the pursuit of desires becomes an endless cycle. Each accomplishment becomes a stepping stone for the emergence of new goals, creating a narrative of continuous growth and fulfilment. Pearlfection Joy, in its spirited representation, encourages a positive perspective on the ceaseless evolution of our aspirations and the inherent joy found in the pursuit of new goals.

About the work:
“Reclaimed Resurgence,” inspired by Yeow Kai Chai’s “On the Trail of the Dragon,” is an artistic reflection on individual transformation. Xin revitalises abandoned Jesmonite pieces, creating a tapestry rich in dragon symbolism, bridging Eastern and Western traditions. This work interweaves discarded fragments, symbolising human potential’s multifaceted nature, resonating with the poem’s exploration of dragon lore. Resembling dragon scales, these recycled elements mirror the cultural symbols of the poem and universal motifs, harmonising with Bruce Lee’s philosophy of adaptability, like water flowing through cracks. Each piece, once considered flawed, represents resilience and personal growth, reflecting the water’s adaptability. The artwork, symbolising material and self malleability, highlights resilience as a catalyst for growth. It encourages viewers to embark on self-guided paths, and stands as a testament to innate transformative power, visually encapsulating life’s cycles, rejuvenation, and adaptability.

Lenskart x Wendy Mack

About Artist:
Wendy Mack is an artist, author, and educator that treats her craft as a continual expansion of consciousness, and draws inspiration and understanding of the human psyche from her direct observations and experiences with mother nature. These records that emerge from her processes largely take the form of paintings and prints. She launched The Curious Forager Project with Sainouspace, and also produced two short films with RAW Moves as a resident artist.

About the Work:
Eyes of the Dragon

The Dragon’s Eye, an ancient Germanic symbol meticulously chronicled by Rudolf Koch, deeply resonates with the mythical essence and the concept of cyclical time in Yeow’s poetry. This symbol, a fusion of the letter ‘Y’ and a triangle, represents the eternal struggle between good and evil and the impact of choices made or forsaken. It reflects the idea that every decision carries consequences, often highlighted in moments of desperation when people turn to prayer for miracles. This installation encourages viewers to recognize that living with clear intention is a form of prayer, preventing the descent into helplessness and despair when facing adversity. Visitors are invited to step into the centre of the installation, contemplate the loop in their lives that feels most confining, and consider actions to break free from it in the year 2024. They are encouraged to express this through drawing or writing on spectacle lenses and adding them to a communal wall. The installation draws a parallel between the Sun’s gravitational pull in the solar system and the need for individuals to be at the centre of their own universe, attracting and managing aspects that matter most to them. These twelve Dragon Eyes in the installation are designed to offer deeper insight into what truly matters to each individual, serving as a conduit to synchronise with past events, present realities, and future possibilities.
