Southern Voice Philharmonia (SVP) UTM, originally established as UTM Choir in 1999 by Mr. Dwiono Hermantoro, represents Universiti Teknologi Malaysia, located in Skudai, Johor. The choir achieved national recognition as the ๐ฐ๐ต๐ฎ๐บ๐ฝ๐ถ๐ผ๐ป ๐ผ๐ณ ๐๐ต๐ฒ ๐๐ป๐๐ฒ๐ฟ๐๐ฎ๐ฟ๐๐ถ๐๐ ๐๐ต๐ผ๐ถ๐ฟ ๐๐ผ๐บ๐ฝ๐ฒ๐๐ถ๐๐ถ๐ผ๐ป in 2002, 2003, and 2004, before the competition was called off. When it was revived in 200
7, the choir secured the ๐ญ๐๐ ๐ฟ๐๐ป๐ป๐ฒ๐ฟ-๐๐ฝ ๐ฝ๐ผ๐๐ถ๐๐ถ๐ผ๐ป, finishing behind UKM. In 2004, UTM Choir was one of two Malaysian representatives at the ๐๐ต๐ผ๐ถ๐ฟ ๐ข๐น๐๐บ๐ฝ๐ถ๐ฐ๐ (later renamed the World Choir Games in 2006) and earned a ๐ฆ๐ถ๐น๐๐ฒ๐ฟ ๐๐ถ๐ฝ๐น๐ผ๐บ๐ฎ. In 2021, the choir won the๐๐น๐ฒ๐บ๐ถ๐๐ต ๐ฉ๐ถ๐ฑ๐ฒ๐ผ ๐๐๐ฎ๐ฟ๐ฑ at the World Choir Games with their performance of Alain Craens's ๐ ๐๐ถ๐ญ๐ญ๐ข๐ฃ๐บ, which also gave members the opportunity to meet and learn from the composer. The team is known for its multi-racial composition, featuring members from various ethnic groups in MalaysiaโMalay, Chinese, Indian, ethnic minorities from Sabah and Sarawakโas well as international students. Their diverse repertoire includes songs such as ๐๐ช๐ณ๐จ๐ข๐ฉ๐ข๐บ๐ถ ๐๐๐, ๐๐ฆ๐ซ๐ข๐ฉ๐ต๐ฆ๐ณ๐ข ๐๐ข๐ญ๐ข๐บ๐ด๐ช๐ข, ๐๐ข๐ฏ๐จ๐ฌ๐ณ๐ช๐ฌ ๐๐ฆ๐ฏ๐จ๐จ๐ฐ๐ฏ๐จ (an Indonesian folk song), ๐ ๐๐ช๐ฎ๐ฆ ๐๐ฐ๐ณ ๐๐ด, and ๆไบฎไปฃ่กจๆ็ๅฟ (๐๐ฉ๐ฆ ๐๐ฐ๐ฐ๐ฏ ๐๐ฆ๐ฑ๐ณ๐ฆ๐ด๐ฆ๐ฏ๐ต๐ด ๐๐บ ๐๐ฆ๐ข๐ณ๐ต, popularized by Teresa Teng). Since its formation in 1999, the team has been led by exceptional student leaders:๐ง๐ฎ๐ป ๐๐ถ ๐๐ถ (1999โ2000), ๐๐๐บ ๐ช๐ฎ๐ป ๐๐ถ๐ฎ๐ป๐ด (2001), ๐ ๐ถ๐ฐ๐ต๐ฒ๐น๐น๐ฒ ๐๐ผ๐ต (2002), ๐๐ต๐๐ฎ ๐๐ผ๐ธ ๐๐ผ๐ป๐ด (2003), ๐ก๐ถ๐ธ๐ถ ๐๐๐ฒ๐ฒ (2004 & 2006), ๐ข๐บ๐ป๐ผ๐ฝ๐ผ๐ป ๐๐ถ๐ต๐ฎ๐บ (2005), ๐ ๐ผ๐ต๐ฑ ๐๐พ๐ฟ๐ฎ๐บ (2007), ๐๐ฎ๐ ๐๐ผ๐ผ๐ป ๐๐ต๐๐ป (2008), ๐๐น๐๐ถ๐ป๐๐ (2018โ2019), and ๐๐ฎ๐ฟ๐ฟ๐ฒ๐ป ๐๐ป๐ด ๐๐ถ๐ฎ ๐๐ฒ (2020-2022). From 2023, the club has been led by ๐๐ผ๐ ๐๐๐ถ ๐๐ป, and the club underwent significant rebranding, merging the choir and orchestra divisions to form ๐ฆ๐ผ๐๐๐ต๐ฒ๐ฟ๐ป ๐ฉ๐ผ๐ถ๐ฐ๐ฒ ๐ฃ๐ต๐ถ๐น๐ต๐ฎ๐ฟ๐บ๐ผ๐ป๐ถ๐ฎ (๐ฆ๐ฉ๐ฃ) ๐จ๐ง๐ as a sub club of ๐ฃ๐๐ง๐๐ฅ๐๐ก๐ ๐จ๐ง๐ . The choir continued to shine, winning ๐๐๐ก๐ซ๐๐ง ๐ฝ and ๐ฝ๐ง๐ค๐ฃ๐ฏ๐ ๐ผ at the ๐ ๐๐ ๐๐๐ ๐ฎ๐ฌ๐ฎ๐ฏ, and ๐๐๐ก๐ซ๐๐ง ๐ฝ and ๐๐๐ก๐ซ๐๐ง ๐พ at the ๐ ๐๐ ๐๐๐ ๐ฎ๐ฌ๐ฎ๐ฐ. On 7th June 2024, SVP hosted its first major event, ๐ฅ๐ฒ๐ฐ๐ถ๐๐ฎ๐น ๐ฎ๐ฌ๐ฎ๐ฐ, blending choir and orchestral performances in a remarkable showcase of talent. Although still in the process of growing and refining its skills, SVP is proud to welcome new members to be part of it. We believe that with more dedicated individuals joining our team, we can grow stronger together, reach new milestones, and bring out the best in our choir and orchestra.
