What a wonderful journey for β€œOf Living & Dying”. We are deeply grateful to our audiences for the warmth, encouragement and thoughtful testimonials shared with us following the Singapore Premiere. Their responses gave added meaning to a work that has already travelled through different cities, cultures and artistic encounters.

For our performers, musicians and creative team, the experience was equally memorable. Bringing together artists from Singapore and Indonesia created a powerful shared journey of movement, sound, friendship and artistic exchange. From the final full dress rehearsal at the University Cultural Centre to the performance itself, every moment carried the energy and commitment of everyone involved.

Kudos to everyone who made β€œOf Living & Dying” possible. Bringing together artists, musicians and collaborators from Singapore and Indonesia required trust, discipline and a shared commitment to the work.

What made this journey especially meaningful was the opportunity to reconnect through art. Some of these relationships have grown over years of collaboration, while others developed through this production. Each person brought a different artistic background, experience and perspective into the process.

Kudos to our musicians for bringing such depth, soul and energy to β€œOf Living & Dying”. Led by Hanom, the ensemble created a rich live soundscape that became an integral part of the performance rather than simply an accompaniment.

From instrumental textures to vocal elements, the music shaped the atmosphere, supported the emotional journey of the dancers and gave the work another dimension of expression. The result was an immersive encounter where movement and sound responded to one another throughout the performance.

We are especially grateful to the musicians for their commitment, sensitivity and collaboration. Their contribution added warmth, intensity and cultural depth to the production, creating a distinctive auditory experience for the audience.

Our sincere appreciation to the Excellencies and special guests from embassies, government agencies, the arts, education and different sectors who joined us for the Singapore Premiere of β€œOf Living & Dying”.

The pre show reception created an opportunity for meaningful engagement before the performance began. Over dinner and informal conversations, guests were able to exchange perspectives, reconnect with familiar faces and build new relationships across different professional and cultural communities.

These moments of engagement are an important part of the theatre experience for us. The arts create a natural space for people from different backgrounds to meet, converse and better understand one another, while allowing relationships to continue beyond the performance itself.

We are grateful to have welcomed leaders, supporters and friends from diverse sectors to the Singapore Premiere of β€œOf Living & Dying”. Many have journeyed with ODT and experienced our works over the years, while others joined us for the first time and discovered a different side of our artistic practice.

What made the reception especially meaningful was the opportunity to reconnect, exchange perspectives and hear how the performance resonated with different guests. Some arrived already familiar with our work, while others were pleasantly surprised by the experience and shared that they would like to return for future productions.

The performance continued beyond the stage through a meaningful post performance dialogue between the artists and audience. Many audience members stayed on to listen, reflect and engage with the concepts, thoughts and intentions behind β€œOf Living & Dying”.

What made the conversation especially rewarding was the depth of engagement. The audience was curious about the artistic process, the inspirations behind the work and the experiences that shaped the performers. These exchanges added another layer of meaning to the evening and allowed the performance to continue through conversation, reflection and shared understanding.

The dialogue also revealed how deeply the ideas of life, passion and art had resonated with those present. One reflection that stayed with us was the simple thought that to feel is to breathe, and to breathe is to feel. In that sense, the performance became more than something to watch. It became an invitation to pause, listen, feel and reconnect with what matters.

This post performance dialogue has also become a must do part of our series. We value creating space for audiences and artists to meet after the performance, because these conversations often reveal new perspectives, questions and meanings that can only emerge through direct exchange.

Challenging his body and extending the possibilities of movement, Dr Danny Tan worked with water sleeves measuring 10 metres on each side. The sleeves became more than a visual element, extending the body, shaping space and deepening the meaning carried through movement.

Mastering water sleeves demands precision, control, timing and concentration. It is also unusual for male dancers to take on this form with such depth. For Dr Danny, the journey has spanned approximately 30 years of continued learning, experimentation and refinement.

In β€œOf Living & Dying”, the water sleeves become part of the emotional and visual language of the work. They move between weight and lightness, restraint and freedom, allowing the body to communicate beyond its physical boundaries.

This sustained practice reflects a commitment to preserving traditional foundations while continuing to explore how they can evolve within contemporary expression.
