🧩🎶Creating new choral music is a collaborative act — shaped by composer, conductor, and singers alike. What emerges on stage is collective, living, and never exactly the same twice.

At the Living Music: Singers’ Edition, we open up our rehearsal room and share how we work with contemporary choral repertoire — uncovering the ideas, emotions, and intent behind the notes and markings on the page. Whether you’re curious about new music or keen to experience how singers navigate unfamiliar sound worlds, this session is an invitation into our process.

Join us on Friday, 1 May 2026 from 2:30-6pm at Aliwal Arts Centre. Register your interest by Sunday, 8 March 2026 by scanning the QR code below or clicking this link: https://bit.ly/livingmusicsyc. Successful applicants will be notified by email.

Our Assistant Conductor Nicolette Foo recently represented Singapore at the 46th Annual Conductors’ Symposium, organised by our friends at Vancouver Chamber Choir with their Artistic Director Kari Turunen. A chemist by training, Nicolette made the leap into choral conducting and was one of just five young conductors selected for this international programme.

At the , we believe in championing new music and nurturing artistry from all backgrounds. Nicolette’s journey reflects that commitment — engaging with fresh repertoire, new perspectives, and global collaborations to expand our collective musical horizons.

We are proud to see her carrying that spirit onto the international stage, and we look forward to the new ideas and inspirations she will bring back to our music-making. 🌏🎶

Congratulations, Nicolette!

Nearly a decade ago, the SYC Ensemble Singers commissioned For Good by (Saunder Choi) — a piece that has travelled with us across stages and borders.

With Wicked: For Good now in the spotlight, we wanted to share this recording from eight years ago, a reminder that the people we meet and the music we make together can leave us changed for the better.

We are excited to be the Ensemble in Residence for the Composer Society of Singapore’s Young Composer Forum 2025.

As an extension of our Living Music series, this role continues our commitment to giving young composers a space to road-test new music with a live choir. Since our founding in 1964, we have built an international reputation as a composer’s choir, commissioning over 60 works and championing the voices of today’s composers.

Last weekend, we kicked off the Young Composer Forum 2025, welcoming the young composers, mentors, sponsors and friends from the Composer Society of Singapore to observe one of our weekly rehearsals. It was then followed by a screening of our past commissions, along with a lively Q&A session with our Artistic Director, Jennifer Tham, and the choir, discussing the intricacies and practicalities of composing for the human voice.

We look forward to receiving the composers’ first sketches of their music early next year and working with them to bring these to life together!

We’re still buzzing from the energy of the body electric, our legacy-memory project, and deeply grateful for this thoughtful review that captured the programming arc from our 60th anniversary concert last year.

“Their sense of purpose in championing choral works of living composers and serving as a collective for innovation remains unwavering, and undeniably successful.” - Composers' Society of Singapore.

Thank you for seeing into our hearts, for celebrating the music of our unapologetic selves.
