Wayfarer Sinfonietta

Wayfarer Sinfonietta Wayfarer Sinfonietta is a collective of the finest young musicians in Singapore.

Wayfarer Sinfonietta made their debut in September 2021 with The Unknown Woman - Songs of Alma Mahler, Gustav Mahler, Alexander Zemlinsky and Erich Korngold held in Victoria Concert Hall. In January 2022, they collaborated with The Opera People on Penelope, fusing the music of Britten and Previn in a staged production that saw three sold-out shows. In March 2022, they also collaborated with Lirica

Arts to present a fully-staged production of Rossini’s L’inganno felice. Future plans in 2022 include further exploration of the late Romantic repertoire by Berg and Strauss as well as opera by Britten, in additional to newly commissioned arrangements of the symphonic repertoire specifically made for Wayfarer Sinfonietta.

Looking forward to our 2nd collaboration this year with our dear friends from The Opera People again! Don't miss our Don Giovanni in November 🔥🔥🔥

The Opera People present a new production of Mozart’s masterpiece, and one of the most famous operas ever written, Don Giovanni.

In a world obsessed with the cult of personality, where power brings freedom, Don Giovanni can get away even with murder, or so he thinks. When his latest, violent sexual conquest doesn’t quite go according to plan, the structures of power that have held up his numerous crimes slowly start to come apart. Even as those wronged by him demand accountability for his crimes, their actions become a farce of justice. But when they are confronted by a terrifying vision of mortality, the repercussions of both his actions and their inaction, creates ripples for generations to come.

Directed by Tan Shou Chen and featuring a cast of some of Singapore’s finest singers including Renata Hann Sungwon , Felicia Teo Kaixin, Cherie Tse, Jonathan Charles Tay, Edward Kim, David Tao Chen Ming, Shawn Liew, guest singer Igor Mostovoi and the Wayfarer Sinfonietta led by Lien Boon Hua, this bold new take on Don Giovanni questions our complicity in violence and the systems of power that shape our relationships with each other.

A week ago, we had a fantastic time conducting our "Managing People Through the Lens of an Orchestra" workshop for the talented team at ByteDance Inc. The participants enjoyed the session immensely and walked away with valuable insights into leadership and teamwork.

Here’s a gem from the workshop:
"In an orchestra, much like in any team, diverse personalities, perspectives, and skill sets are encountered. The key to harmony lies in understanding and leveraging these differences to create something truly beautiful."

We're thrilled to see how music can inspire and elevate leadership skills in the corporate world. If your team could benefit from a unique and engaging leadership workshop, the Wayfarer Sinfonietta & our Artistic Director Lien Boon Hua is here to help!

Posted • “Youth” contains multitudes. It is about growing up and learning to confront the beautiful, the ugly and the complex. It is about looking to history for inspiration and hope. Ultimately, it is about establishing one’s place in the world.

60 years after our founding as the Singapore Youth Choir and 20 years since we became the SYC Ensemble Singers, we examine this word that we once carried in our name but whose essence remains part of our identity today.

Music by Singaporeans Leong Yoon Pin, Joyce Bee Tuan Koh and Diana Soh epitomise our passion for sonic experimentation while hearkening to the village that made us. Eric Whitacre’s “The Stolen Child” and Cristian Grases’ new setting of “Lux Aeterna” speak to the human grappling with eternity and the inevitable passage of time. Finally, Arvo Pärt’s “Te Deum” is at once our reflection on six decades of music making and our ode of joy and thanksgiving.

Together with the , choir alumni and friends as well as a new generation of Singapore choristers, we uncover what it means to 60 years young. Tickets from

The Opera People present the Singapore premiere of Vincenzo Bellini’s La sonnambula (The Sleepwalker), accompanied by Wayfarer Sinfonietta.

The celebrations are interrupted by the arrival of a visitor, Rodolfo, who isn’t all he claims to be. As the night unfolds, Rodolfo discovers that Amina has been hiding a secret condition. What ensues, is the unravelling of the deep frictions that have been bubbling under the surface.

Directed by Edith Podesta and featuring a cast of Singapore’s finest singers including Renata Hann Sungwon and Felicia Teo Kaixin as Amina, Jonathan Charles Tay as Elvino, Phoebe Chee as Lisa and Shawn Riccardo Liew as Rodolfo. RIP Kaija Saariaho.

We are deeply saddened by the loss of an exceptional composer today. We were lucky enough to share her evocative 'Nocturne' for violin solo at our recent 'Impossible Things' concert. Her music has touched us all. We hope this experience will encourage you to explore more of her beautiful and haunting music. Her legacy lives on in every note she penned.

A statement from the family of Kaija Saariaho.

We are absolutely thrilled to see our "Impossible Things" concert glowingly reviewed on The Straits Times! A huge thank you to the Chang Tou Liang for his insightful look at our performance.

"Its latest concert for string ensemble was as uncompromisingly edgy as it was original, putting a marker on future programmes to come."

The review highlights the performances of tenor David Charles Tay and violinist Yoong Han Chan in Nico Muhly's three-part song cycle "Impossible Things", complimenting Tay's "clear diction" and Chan's "virtuosic violin".

The performance of John Adams (Composer)'s "Shaker Loops" was also highly praised, with the reviewer noting, "A work demanding such immense precision and incisiveness, played at neck-breaking pace, could be accomplished only by the best in the land."

We're grateful for this recognition and we're excited for what's to come for Wayfarer Sinfonietta! Read the full review at the Straits Times and revisit this incredible journey.

Last chance to catch "Impossible Things" tonight! 🌟 A huge thank you to our amazing audience who showered us with love and praise yesterday. ❤️🎶

Here are some beautiful words from our audience yesterday:

"Please absolutely go catch this concert of contemporary classical music by . It is so rare to be in the midst of something glass-like and delicate, like it could shatter at any moment... but because the playing held it with so much care and focus, I was in tears throughout." - Joel Tan, playwright

"If you ever wonder what classical music can do, or what more classical can do today, you must NOT miss this concert.
Once again, Boon Hua and his Wayfarer Sinfonietta has proven that contemporary classical music can be nothing short of emotional intensity." - Heyang Zhang, reporter for Zaobao

"If there were any preconceptions that this ensemble was merely a pick-up group of freelancers, this performance shattered all such illusions. A work demanding such immense precision and incisiveness, playing at neck-breaking pace, could be accomplished only by the best in the land." - Chang Tou Liang, Straits Times review
