"No other work of Johannes has so entirely transported me; so tender is the flow of the second movement which is wonderfully poetic. I am happier tonight than I have been for a long time." โ Clara Schumann on the scherzo
Brahmsโ Piano Trio No. 3 in c minor Op. 101 emerged in the summer of 1886, during an intense period of creativity that saw him, at the peak of his powers, produce a succession of works including a cello sonata and two violin sonatas. This second movement is a hushed scherzo that is nearly seamless with its delicate, uncomplicated intermezzo, without pronounced sectional contrasts.
Watch our Homegrown Series musicians navigate this workโs โprofuse melodic inventionโ - honing her craft and intensively working through this trioโs technical demands with our Artists-in-Residence to culminate at our Residencyโs Evening Concert I on 24 Jan 2026, Sat, 7.30pm.
