Avant Theatre Celebrates 25 Years of Theatre Making

Avant Theatre, a pioneering force in Singapore's theatre scene, is proud to announce its 25th anniversary celebration today (2 March 2001). A remarkable 25 years of pushing boundaries in theatre making! Founded in 2001 in Melbourne, Australia, and later established in Singapore in 2011. Avant Theatre has championed itself in promoting multicultural/multilingual theatre forms and hybrid performances having a strong rooted mission and vision in supporting the Singapore Arts Space.

Avant Theatre has produced groundbreaking shows with interesting concepts, performances showcasing actors’ prowess and presentation techniques for both local and internation stages.
With a strong commitment to showcasing local and international talent has earned them recognition as one of the leading theatre companies in Singapore. Avant Theatre aims to continue pushing boundaries in theatre making and promoting Asian theatre and arts.

Avant Theatre aims to continue as a creative platform showcasing commercially appealing productions and an artistic exploratory platform working in partnership with local and international arts organisations.

A Coffee Table book with all production and events committed from 2021 to 2025 is published in commemorating the 25th Anniversary adding to the first volume published in 2020.

But what does this Honorary Title means .....

*STREE ARJUNA* , based on the character Arjuna from the Indian epic, the Mahabharata. After the infamous dice game in the Mahabharata, the Pandavas were exiled to 12 years in the forest, followed by a 13th year in disguise, as a condition set by the Kauravas to reclaim their lost kingdom.

This play shines a spotlight on that 13th year—told from Arjuna's perspective. It explores his inner journey, what he experienced, how he adapted, and how he prepared to reclaim his rightful place.

Performed in Tamil, the play runs for approximately 100 minutes without an intermission.
