A series of paintings from Tengri: Star Seeds, the most recent show by at .gallery in Dubai.

"Aigana Gali is a multidisciplinary artist who works across a wide range of media, from canvas and paper to textiles and bronze, in a dynamic process guided by the essential character of each series. Born on the ancient crossing of the Great Silk Road in Almaty, Kazakhstan, her rich cultural heritage is an infinite source to her work.

Gali’s paintings are invested with subtle historical or mythical references, just as the Saka buried treasures in the endless plains of the steppe. In relocating to London, Aigana explored ways to communicate and translate her cultural milieu, in particular the tonal shifts and vibrational quality of light found in the vast plains.

Over the past decade she has developed an important body of work, delineated by series: Creation Myth, Steppe and Tengri. Each representing a metaphorical chapter in her evolution as an artist and thinker, Gali adapts both technique and materials according to an essential, abstracted schematic. Luminous and beguiling, her works explore the mysterious forces - ancient wisdom, nature’s cycles and cosmic order - that shape our lives." -- .gallery

"The work of is a confluence of her cultural experiences both visual and spiritual. Her paintings are like portals in that they represent a world of infinite possibilities. There is time for reflectivity and timeless tranquility. They create a heightened perception of the world we live in. They are passageways between her interior and exterior worlds. Her art is a spiritual excavation. She addresses the central theme of cosmic balance between light and darkness, spirit and matter."

Jen Hitchings "Seven Suns" at through August 19th.

〰️〰️〰️〰️〰️〰️〰️〰️〰️

"In Hitchings’ hands, the vastness of nature is transformed into otherworldly vistas, populated by glowing waterfalls, hazy mountain ridges, and beckoning coulees. Glimmering in the sky of many paintings, Hitchings includes a constellation of stars significant to each landscape or person she experienced the place with—a merging of the personal, emotional, and astronomical.

Serenely still, Hitchings’ world appears apocalyptic, a vision of the world when human life has ceased, or perhaps before it began. The exhibition title, Seven Suns, is an allusion to Buddhist eschatology, describing how the world will come to an end through sequential disappearance of water and eventual combustion. Elements within and between each painting are unified by subtle color shifts and tangents, seemingly  unaffected by the human understanding of time and space Transcendentalism and Eastern philosophies guide Hitchings’ appreciation for nature, solitude, interconnectedness, and other beings—and consequently shape her vision of life and translation of it through painting.

Hitchings describes her landscapes as post-anthropocentric, depicting a version of our planet without human presence. The combination of naturalistic and acidic colors suggest an uninhabitable or potentially radioactive environment. However, stems and pairs of plants suggest a future, strong-willed survivors. This delicate, uncanny wavering between serenity and sorrow, isolation and unity, day and night, is the emotive response the works strive to elicit—where two opposites meet at the beginning and end of a cycle."

For portions of the pandemic, Cannon traveled to New Mexico and Wyoming for residencies. Duri...
