This is “Threshold”. A part of my latest collection Vertical Studies.

With this work I followed the material. I always do, but this time there was something different. A pull toward the centre emerged. Almost like a void. I strengthened it. Let it become what it wanted to be.

When it came to naming it I kept returning to that centre. Not the colour. Not the texture. That feeling.

Threshold. In science and mathematics it refers to the exact point at which something begins to happen. The moment a reaction is triggered. Where one state tips into another.

That is what this work is for me.

The point where the noise tips into silence. Where a mind that never stops finally does. I walk into the studio carrying everything. Unprocessed thoughts. A brain that won’t rest.

And somewhere in the making something tips.

I come out empty. Blank. In the best possible way.

Hi!

I’m Mikaela Fridh. I’m a mother, wife and artist. And many other things too.

When I was younger, I never dreamed of becoming an artist. But I always felt a strong need to create.

I rearranged my room constantly. Waited for the latest IKEA catalogue to arrive. Collected inspiration from interiors, materials, colours and spaces that made me feel something.

I’ve always been deeply affected by the atmosphere of a room. The light. The textures. The feeling certain spaces can hold.

Somewhere along the way, that became art.

Today, I create abstract works inspired by tactile materials and the way light and form interact within a space. I keep returning to warm tones and forms with a quiet sense of presence.

Creating became a way for me to slow down and reconnect during a time when life felt overwhelmingly fast. In many ways, art became my anchor. My breathing space. The only place where my brain goes quiet.

What once started as a personal outlet gradually evolved into Studio Mikaela Fridh.

Today, I create from my studio in Malmö, Sweden. And yes, I still rearrange our home constantly. To my husband’s great happiness 🙃

I’ve decided to auction this piece in support of Riksförbundet Attention and their work for individuals and families living with neurodivergence.

This project is deeply personal to me.

Over the past few years life has given me a much deeper understanding of neurodivergence, overstimulation, sensitivity and the constant balancing act many people and families navigate every day.

“Veil” became a reflection of that in many ways.

The layers and sculptural surface symbolize everything we carry within us – emotions, impressions, intensity and constant movement. But also the need for pauses, softness and safety in all of it.

100% of the proceeds will go directly to Attention Sweden.

The piece will also be exhibited during Scandi Tour in Copenhagen on May 23, and the auction ends the same day at 18:30 CET.
