Durga Puja is almost upon us. The weather has begun to turn cooler, as it does at this time of year. Yet, much like last year, there is a strange sense of worldly melancholy in the air, a heaviness that seems to have settled over everything.
Nepal has already been ravaged by a devastating natural calamity. The land of the Buddha has been torn apart by catastrophic floods caused by melting glaciers. Thousands of lives have been swallowed by water, mud and silt. Such a horrifying disaster is something we have rarely witnessed in recent times. The global warming that humanity once confined to intellectual discourse is no longer an abstract warning. It stands before us, sword in hand, as the Earth moves inexorably towards destruction. But whose hand wields that sword? Who is this demon?
Sometimes in war too, we are witnessing its many manifestations, a grotesque spectacle of suffering and destruction that sends a shudder through the very fabric of our being.
Whether through war or nature, humanity finds itself increasingly helpless before forces beyond its control. And so, in the truest sense, we are not well.
Yet, amidst all this darkness, Devi Durga will come. She will come, as she always does, at the appointed hour. She is our faith, our refuge, our source of strength and the inexhaustible energy within us. She must come.
This year, we invoke Maa Durgatinashini, the Mother who vanquishes suffering. May She protect Nepal and this fragile world we call home. May She bring an end to this endless procession of death and despair. May Her Abhaya—the assurance of fearlessness—become a blessing that breathes new life into this wounded Earth. May nature find peace. That is the prayer we shall carry with us this Durga Puja.
And let us end with Nepal. This year, alongside our Durga Puja celebrations, we have resolved to do something for the people of Nepal who have been devastated by this catastrophe.
We will organise a relief effort and send our collective contribution to the Prime Minister’s Relief Fund of Nepal. We sincerely appeal to you to stand with us in this endeavour and offer whatever support you can. Every contribution, however modest, can become a meaningful gesture of compassion and solidarity towards those who need it most.
And finally, come and celebrate Durga Puja with us. Bring your family and be part of these three days of devotion, celebration and togetherness.

দুর্গাপুজো এসে গেল। বাইরের পরিবেশ একটু একটু করে ঠান্ডা হচ্ছে। এ সময়টা এমনই হয়। কিন্তু গতবারের মতোই এ বছরও একটা জাগতিক বিষণ্ণতায় চারদিক কেমন থমথমে।
ইতিমধ্যেই নেপালে ঘটে গেছে চরম প্রাকৃতিক দুর্যোগ। বুদ্ধের দেশ নেপাল হিমবাহ থেকে সৃষ্ট বানের আঘাতে ভেঙে চুরমার হয়ে গেছে। হাজার হাজার মানুষ পলি মাটির পাঁকে মিশে গেছেন। এরকম ভয়ঙ্কর দুর্যোগ ইদানীংকালে আমরা খুব একটা দেখিনি। যে বৈশ্বিক উষ্ণায়নকে মানুষ জ্ঞানগর্ভ আলোচনার মধ্যে সীমিত রেখেছিল, আজ সে উদ্যত। হাতে তার খড়্গ। প্রতি মুহূর্তে ধ্বংসের পথে এগিয়ে যাচ্ছে পৃথিবী। কিন্তু কার হাত ধরে? কে সেই অসুর? মৃত্যুর এরকম তাণ্ডব নাচ শেষ কবে দেখেছে মানুষ?
তবে এখানেই শেষ নয়। একবিংশ শতাব্দীতে মৃত্যুর অনেক রূপ। সংঘাত ও ডেকে আনছে বহু মানুষের মৃত্যু। হয় যুদ্ধ, নয়তো প্রকৃতি, মানুষের অকাল সমর্পণ মৃত্যুর গ্রাসে অনিবার্য। তাই প্রকৃত অর্থেই আমরা ভালো নেই। ভালো নেই।
এর মধ্যেও “মা” আসবেন। নির্ঘণ্ট মেনে তিনি আসবেন। তিনিই ভরসা। আদি অনাদি শক্তির আধার। অন্তরের উর্জা। তাঁকে আসতেই হবে।
এ বছর মা দুর্গতিনাশিনী। তিনি আগলে রাখুন নেপালকে। এই পৃথিবীকে। এত মৃত্যু আর হাহাকার যেন মা নাশ করেন নিজ হাতে। তাঁর অভয় যেন আশীর্বাদ হয়ে প্রাণ সঞ্চার করে মৃত মাটিতে। প্রকৃতি শান্ত হোক। এই প্রার্থনাই আমরা করব।
নেপালের কথা বলেই শেষ করি। এ বছর আমরা দুর্গাপুজোর পাশাপাশি নেপালের বিপর্যস্ত মানুষের জন্য কিছু করার ব্রত নিয়েছি। আমরা একটি ত্রাণ সংগ্রহ করে পাঠিয়ে দেব নেপালের প্রধানমন্ত্রীর রিলিফ ফান্ডে। আপনিও পাশে থাকুন। খুব দরকার। যেভাবে, যতটুকু পারা যায়।
দুর্গাপুজোয় সবাই আসুন। পরিবারকে সঙ্গে নিয়ে উৎসব কাটুক। ১৬, ১৭, ১৮ এই তিন দিন পুজো। দেখা হবে |
