Viva Sounds takeover at Göteborgskalaset with MARY SHELLEY (NY) and SPELA DÖD

As the festivities of goteborgskalaset sweeps over the city this summer, Viva Sounds brings the heat to Kungstorget with some familiar faces on Friday, August 28th.

Last year at Viva Sounds 2025, Gothenburg’s own SPELA DÖD kicked off our movin’ tram with an unforgettable set for those who were onboard, and later blew the roof off Oceanen. Spela Död blends playful rock ‘n’ roll, catchy pop melodies, and a touch of new prog, creating a sound that is both free-spirited and emotionally resonant, with an infectious energy to be unleashed in the middle of the city.

Brooklyn’s own MARY SHELLEY caused a scene wherever they went, and left no one standing still as they graced Viva Sounds 2024 with three thunderous shows. Post punk rhythms imbued with elements of dance/disco beats, shoegaze, hip-hop and more, while influences stretch across generations, sounds and styles. It’s punk music you can dance to, and something you don’t wanna miss as you get the chance to see them here once again.

If you know, you know. But here it is anyway - the core of Viva Sounds. The reason why you should visit. The idea behind it all.

- Finding your new favourite band by accident
- Walking out from a show and into another life
- The city becoming the lineup
- Nights that don’t fit into one place
- Music that turns into conversations between strangers
- Small rooms, oversized energy

It's all about 'em smiles, shows and sticky floors! Welcome!

STAF enter Hängmattan and Club Viva Sounds on September 4!

Staf is one of the most interesting voices in the new Swedish indie wave. Dark post-punk meets emotionally charged indie rock in Swedish, with political undertones and influences from Fontaines D.C., Kent, The Cure, and Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds.

Sharing the stage are The Slates (UK) who made a brilliant impact during Viva Sounds last November. Back for more. More and more.

See you September 4!

In case you were wondering what The Family Men actually look like live. Playing Saturday, 28 November!

VHS projections, collapsing walls of feedback and absolute sensory overload. The Family Men have built a reputation as one of the wildest live bands around — and honestly, the videos barely capture how loud this thing gets. Here’s a small glimpse before the chaos arrives at Viva Sounds!

At Viva Sounds last November, The Slates from Yorkshire stepped onto a tram one day and onto the stage at Hängmattan the next, and left chaos in their wake. It was the kind of show people talked about afterwards. Now they're returning to the scene of the crime.

Their latest single Watch Life Burn received immediate support from Radio X and Apple Music, a sold-out tour followed, and they head into a festival summer at Isle of Wight, Tramlines and Y Not? — all backed by the label This Feeling.

Joining them is Staf, one of the most exciting bands to emerge from the new wave of Swedish indie music. Dark post-punk with political undertones, blending influences from Fontaines D.C., Kent and The Cure. Two albums, 60+ shows, and performances that leave a lasting impression.

On September 4, it's time. Come down to Hängmattan and find out why everyone in the UK is talking about The Slates, and why it's time the conversation around Staf gets louder.
