🏙️ Dubai Then & Now

These photographs show just how dramatically Dubai has transformed in a few decades.
In the early days of Sheikh Zayed Road, the Toyota Building stood almost alone in the open desert.

Today the same area is surrounded by skyscrapers, highways, and the Metro.
Places that were once empty desert or sea — Palm Jumeirah, Dubai Marina, Downtown Dubai, JBR, Bluewaters, and the coastline — are now some of the city’s busiest districts.

Even the Dubai World Trade Centre (opened in 1979), which once stood in near isolation, is now part of a vast and constantly growing city.

A powerful example of rapid urban growth and ambitious city-making.

Humanity is owed an extraordinary destiny, we certainly have been through enough hardship! In fact, I don’t think there’s any other species that has been through as much as we have since the beginning of time, so I’d say we are ready and prepared for a wonderfully extraordinary future.

I can actually begin to feel it within reach. It no longer feels like a distant dream, but rather a soon-to-be reality that is slowly taking shape in the minds of millions of us.

We chose to be here to suffer, to witness and to ultimately enjoy the greatest transformation humanity has ever experienced.

I am therefore declaring on behalf of humanity, for whoever needs to take note, that we, ordinary people, are more than PREPARED for the extraordinary! After all, when it comes to hardship we graduated with honors a while ago. I would say our resume makes us overly qualified!

Design and construction of "The Brick House," a 7,000-square-foot residence in India.
The designer utilized red brick in configurations that provide thermal insulation while maintaining natural ventilation and light within the interior spaces. The home features high ceilings and open areas surrounded by nature, both inside and out.

Designed by Studio Humane.
