🚨 MAGADI RESIDENTS WALK 45KM FOR WATER AS CRISIS DEEPENS

Residents of Magadi in Kajiado County are reportedly travelling up to 45 kilometres in search of water as prolonged drought and the suspension of Tata Chemicals Magadi’s operations worsen shortages.

According to The Star, a 20-litre jerrican costs about KSh100, placing extra pressure on families who also need water for their livestock. Some children are missing school as households struggle to find water.

The company had previously supplied water to communities through its operations. President William Ruto ordered the restoration of water services in September, but residents are still reporting serious shortages.

Who should take responsibility for ensuring residents have reliable access to water: the national government, the county government, or both?

🚨 RWANDA BEATS KENYA TO THE F1 SPOTLIGHT! 🇷🇼🏎️🇰🇪

Rwanda has secured a 10-year agreement to host a Formula 1 race, putting the country on the global motorsport map while Kenya watches from the sidelines.

The race is planned for a purpose-built circuit in Bugesera, near Kigali, with the first Grand Prix expected in the early 2030s once construction is complete. It would mark Formula 1’s return to Africa for the first time since the 1993 South African Grand Prix.

The big question for Kenya is simple: Why are our neighbours securing global sporting opportunities while we are still watching?

Could Kenya ever host a major motorsport event of this scale?

NAIROBI IDENTIFIES 227 FLOOD HOTSPOTS AHEAD OF HEAVY RAINS

Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja says the county has identified 227 flood-prone areas as it prepares for expected heavy rains. Around 100,000 residents could be affected in a worst-case scenario.

The county is seeking KSh5.17 billion for flood prevention and emergency response measures.

Will Nairobi complete the necessary drainage works in time, or will residents face another season of flooding?

SO, WHICH RAILA ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT? 👀

Treasury CS John Mbadi says ODM had to fight its way into government despite opposition from the late Raila Odinga.

The remarks raise questions about Raila’s position on ODM’s cooperation with President William Ruto and the party’s direction after his death.

7 IN 10 KENYANS UNPREPARED FOR RETIREMENT

A report highlighted by KBC warns that many Kenyans are not financially prepared for retirement. Family expenses, low or irregular income and debt repayments are among the barriers to saving.

With the cost of living putting pressure on household budgets, many workers face a difficult choice between meeting today’s needs and preparing for old age.

Is retirement saving becoming a luxury for ordinary Kenyans?

IS RUTO LOOKING FOR A BOGEYMAN?

President William Ruto has renewed his attacks on former President Uhuru Kenyatta, accusing him of betrayal and urging him to retire honourably from active politics.

The timing raises a question: Is Ruto looking for a political bogeyman to blame as pressure mounts over the challenges facing his administration?

With the 2027 General Election approaching, Kenyans may wonder whether the growing political exchanges are distracting attention from the cost of living, unemployment and other pressing public concerns.

What do you think? Is Uhuru the real issue, or is Ruto looking for someone to blame?

🇰🇪 STATE HOUSE BUDGET: KIBAKI VS UHURU VS RUTO

Reported annual State House budgets have risen from KSh 1.4 billion during Mwai Kibaki’s presidency to KSh 4.5 billion under Uhuru Kenyatta.

Under William Ruto, reported State House spending has reached KSh 18.55 billion in the 2025/2026 financial year.

As Kenyans grapple with the cost of living, the figures raise questions about government spending, budget priorities and accountability.

Should the government spend more on running State House or on services that directly benefit citizens?

🏙️ NAIROBI IS BEAUTIFUL FROM ABOVE, BUT WHAT ABOUT ON THE GROUND? 🇰🇪

From the air, Nairobi looks modern, green and full of promise. But for many residents, daily life tells a different story.

Traffic jams, poor drainage, overflowing garbage, rising rents, expensive transport and the high cost of living remain major concerns in different parts of the city.

Development should not only look good in aerial photographs. It should improve the lives of the people who live and work in Nairobi every day.

Nairobian, what is the biggest challenge in your neighbourhood? Is it roads, drainage, garbage collection, insecurity, traffic or the cost of living?

Share your experience in the comments. Let’s hear from the people who know Nairobi best.

🇰🇪 KENYA’S PUBLIC DEBT: FIVE PRESIDENTS, SIX DECADES

How has Kenya’s public debt changed under each president?

🇰🇪 Jomo Kenyatta: 1963–1978
🇰🇪 Daniel arap Moi: 1978–2002
🇰🇪 Mwai Kibaki: 2002–2013
🇰🇪 Uhuru Kenyatta: 2013–2022
🇰🇪 William Ruto: 2022–Present

Kenya’s public debt has grown across successive administrations, with major increases during the Uhuru and Ruto presidencies. Reported debt reached approximately KSh 13.1 trillion by June 2026, although some reports cite higher figures depending on the reporting date and definition used.

Historical debt figures must be compared carefully because currency changes, inflation, repayments and exchange rates affect the totals. Changes in public debt are also not the same as the total amount of new loans borrowed.

Kenyans deserve transparency, responsible borrowing and accountability for every shilling of public money.
