30 watercolor tips and tricks

21/06/2026

Watercolor ideas to try: At PWS meetings, we have monthly members' art challenge. A previous challenge involved painting using a triad using only three colors. The triad palettes that follow came from a workshop taught by Gloria Miller Allen. If you haven't tried this technique using one of these triads, it's fun and the results are impressive.

A FEW TRIED AND TRUE TRIADS (from Gloria Miller Allen workshop)

1. The standard palette triad: New Gamboge, French Ultramarine Blue, Cadmium Red Medium

2. Brilliant triad palette: Windsor Yellow, Cobalt Blue, Quinacridone Red

3. Desert triad: Yellow Ochre, Cerulean Blue, Indian Red or Burnt Sienna

4. Experimental triad #2: Quinacridone Gold, Alizarin Crimson Permanent, Prussian Blue

5. Beth’s delicate triad: Aureolin Yellow, Cerulean Blue, Permanent Rose
