The What the Why and the How (just like a 3 in 1 Nescafe sachet).
What? Spoken Word.
Building on the incredible inspirations given by the events of Nest, Decopertat, and Poethree, Instant Open Mics is a platform dedicated to organizing regular and recurring gatherings where you can share your art, experience the work of others, and find inspiration—all within a supportive and safe space. It also encourages thoughtful feedback and deeper conversations that go beyond just cigarette breaks.
We’ll explore a multitude of approaches, such as feedback forms, live or post-event feedback, in written or verbal etc. We are also very open to supporting spoken word/ slam initiatives and/ or co-creating them regardless of group affiliations. More details given at each event.
Networking, sharing, and exploration are encouraged so we can get to know each other better—as individuals, as artists, and as members of Cluj’s spoken word community. This is new for us, and we’re sure we’ll improve with time. For now, what’s most important is creating this space for gathering—Instant Open Mics—as we aim to grow together and spread the love for spoken word, which, is the best thing on Planet Earth.
Why?
Because we like it and getting together to enjoy Spoken Word, is the cream of the crop.
How?
A.K.A some rules
1.Signing up - is done on the spot of the events (there will be a suggestive sign and a designated person to assist).
2.Time limit - 3-5 minutes, to allow multiple performers to share
3.Language - (of the event) -will be in English, to encourage communication cross-spoken word communities and as well with internationationals or to whom Romanian is not a native language. HOWEVER the Language of the poems can be Any, EN, HU, RO, FR, RU, any.
4.Space rules:
- Safe and Supportive Environment: The event is a safe space where participants can express themselves without fear of judgment or ridicule. Harassment or disrespectful behavior will not be tolerated.
-No hate speech.
- Respect to one another (if someone recites or would like to share an idea in a common discussion- you know the drill- may we listen to one another- we ll all get a chance and find a way to express what we would like to contribute with)
-Free speech with preferable Sensibility to let the others know if the content is triggering or explicit so that the people affected can prepare or even leave that poem out (ex poems of domestic violence or su***de is sm not everyone can listen to sometimes)
***If someone needs emotional support or needs to discuss after the event a topic brought up in the performance of the poems, feel free to reach out to a friend, or any one there you feel comfortable sharing with for ex. from the event organizing team (We aren’t licensed psychologists, but we are hypersensitive people that want to be there if needed, as we know art can bring out profound emotions)
