Galeria Scemtovici & Benowitz este spațiu creativ al epocii actuale, cu vârfuri de lance aruncate în viitor, pepinieră pentru tineri creatori și laborator util pentru observarea a ceea ce s-a creat înaintea noastră și a pus bazele a ceea ce suntem noi azi. rdine a post-disciplinarității și a eclectismului din interiorul formelor de artă, în spațiul (meta)galeriei noastre destinate creației contemporane, dorim să legăm buna cuviință cu îndrăzneala, să găzduim artiști care contestă adevărurile, să deschidem (noi) drumuri pentru unii pe nedrept uitați prin ateliere, cât și pentru consacrați. Traversăm o perioadă tare în culori cu molime, războaie, crize energetice, noi credințe și mitologii cu un picior în viitor. "Toate-s vechi și nouă toate" și pentru că aceasta este parte din credința noastră, vom încerca să potrivim într-un loc romantismul, singurătățile artistului demiurg care precum "Hoinarul" lui Caspar David Friedrich observă zările și sinele, postmodernismul (de)construcțiilor, actualităților, conceptelor, arhitecturilor și structurilor artelor prezente. Adăugăm ideilor actuale tradițiile din artă, dorim un dialog în plin miezul sensibilităților contemporane din epoca post-adevărului și a informațiilor false. Echipa galeriei Scemtovici & Benowitz vă invită ca împreună să facem această călătorie artistică și creativă.

Dezbatere: ruinele comunismului și memoria tranzitiei cu:

Călin Cotoi (n. 1974, Timișoara, România), absolvent de medicină și sociologie și doctor în filosofie, profesor al Facultații de Sociologie la Universitatea București. În cercetările sale a abordat teme și subiecte de antropologie politică, istoria științelor sociale și teorie socială. Este alumnus al Wissenschaftskolleg zu Berlin, Woodrow Wilson Center, Colegiul Noua Europă, Collegium Budapest, Indiana University și Center for Advanced Studies Sofia. Cele mai recente publicații ale sale sunt "Holera și duhul comunismului: Inventarea socialului în România, 1831–1914" și "Common Reed and Giant Cane: Transnational Plant Lives and Hydro-Modernities in the Socialist Danube Delta"

Vasile Ernu (n. 1971, Odessa, URSS) este scriitor și jurnalist, absolvent al Facultății de Filosofie a Universității Alexandru Ioan Cuza din Iași. A fost redactor fondator al revistei Philosophy & Stuff și redactor al revistei Idea artă+societate. A activat în cadrul fundațiilor Idea și Tranzit, precum și în cadrul editurilor Idea și Polirom. A susținut rubrici de opinie în România Liberă, HotNews, Timpul, Adevărul, CriticAtac și Libertatea. A publicat peste unsprezece cărți, în peste zece limbi, dintre care amintim Mica trilogie a marginalilor”, “Sălbaticii copii dingo” și “Generația canibală”.

Liviu Chelcea (n. 1974, București, România) predă sociologie la Universitatea din București. Cercetările sale au ca teme centrale inegalitatea, locuirea și fluxurile metabolice în orașe. Cu pregătire în antropologie, Liviu Chelcea a scris despre postsocialism, dezindustrializare, ruine industriale, restituirea locuințelor și infrastructurile urbane din București. Din 2018, studiază tensiunea dintre apa îmbuteliată și apa de rețea în New York City, inclusiv utilizarea domestică a filtrelor de apă și ospitalitatea apei în restaurante, precum și în cadrul proiectului bottledwater.ro. Cele mai recente publicații ale sale sunt “Bucureștiul postindustrial: Memorie, dezindustrializare și regenerare urbană și studiul “Hydraulic Hospitality and the Waters of New York "

The call is open until June 15, 2026.

offers young artists the chance to win one of three financial prizes:

🥇10,000 RON,
🥈 7,000 RON,
🥉 4,000 RON

🏆 Collector’s Prize 4,000 RON.

The call for applications is open to artists aged 22–33 who have completed formal art studies (BA, MA, or PhD),,as well as to young artists of other nationalities.

Applications are accepted exclusively online on the foundation’s website.

We invite you to apply with no more than three paintings on wood, cardboard, canvas or other materials created in the last two years.

🔉 (EN) We are honored to announce the juror of the “Emerging Me II: Black Diamonds” painting prize.

Radu Băieș (b. 1988, Cluj) lives and works in Cluj-Napoca. He obtained his BA and MA degrees in Painting where he is currently pursuing doctoral studies.

His works have been presented in solo exhibitions such as Searching for My Human Traces at Telegraph Gallery; The Great Journey at Galeria Sector 1; Cosmic Green Solitude at Art+Text Budapest; and Radu Băieș at Galeria Quadro.

He has also participated in group exhibitions including SIGNAL I at Telegraph Gallery; Spirits of a Century at Cluj Art Museum; Disruptive Imagination - Making Windows Where There Were Once Walls at GVUO; The Exquisite Corps – Drink the New Wine at Galeria Sector 1; The Cutting Edge 2 at Cluj Art Museum; Body Unnatural at NUNU Fine Art Gallery; Darmo Paris at H Gallery; and exhibitions at K2 Bold Gallery.

His works are included in both national and international private collections.

🔉 (EN) We are honored to announce the juror of the “Emerging Me: Black Diamonds” painting prize.

Alexandra Runcan (b. 1991) is a curator and museum specialist at the Brukenthal National Museum, where she coordinates the Department of Cultural Projects, Exhibitions, and SCAF (Sibiu Contemporary Art Festival). She holds a BA in Conservation–Restoration and an MA in Visual Arts. She combines her academic background with a curatorial vision that explores the relationship between heritage, materiality, and contemporary art discourse.
Throughout her career, she has coordinated numerous exhibitions and contemporary art projects. These include exhibitions at the Brukenthal Museum of Contemporary Art within the SCAF – Sibiu Contemporary Art Festival, as well as international partnerships that connect the museum’s historical collections with contemporary visual expressions.
For Alexandra, the museum should be a living space, in constant negotiation between history, experimentation, and community.

🔊Art Movements Foundation launches the open call for "Emerging Me II: Black Diamonds", the second edition of its annual emerging painting competition.

The call is open until May 31, 2026.

Overworking is a natural phenomenon of emergence, a sign of engagement and authentic searching. Where you see uncertainty, there may already exist a ‘black diamond’ that only needs the right context and the right light to captivate through its beauty.

“Heretical disciples of Lilith and Saturn, Robert Lőrincz (b. 1995, Sfântu Gheorghe) and Paul Baraka Marat (b. 1994, Arad) possesses a complex spiritual genealogy, as dark and heavy as lead is. Anxieties, revolts, traumas, sexual desires, and sombre reveries combine in an obsessive-compulsive manner. Consciously choosing the path of the left hand, through profanations, excesses, or melancholy, the two artists decide to carry out their painful nocturnal cathartic processes” - excerpt from curatorial text.
