A 90s anime classic worth revisiting. ⚔️

NINJA SCROLL (1993) — 9/10 | AMAZING

Ninja Scroll's 2026 4K restoration gives me another reason to revisit my verdict on the original 1993 film.

The hand-drawn combat, dark atmosphere and imaginative enemies are what impressed me most. It has an intensity and visual identity that stayed with me after the film ended.

I would have liked more time with some of the characters. The short runtime limits that development, even when the action is doing so much.

My original review compared Ninja Scroll with Demon Slayer. For me, the interesting conversation is how differently they approach action and emotion—and what each experience leaves you with.

This 9/10 is for Ninja Scroll.

Which older anime would you put on a new fan's watchlist? 👇

You've seen the boss fights. Here's my verdict on the samurai adventure behind them. ⚔️

LIKE A DRAGON: ISHIN! — 8.5/10 | GREAT

If my Ishin chapters and boss battles brought you here, this is where the full experience lands for me.

The dramatic samurai story drew me in, and the different fighting styles gave me plenty to enjoy. Then the side activities arrived with exactly the kind of chaos I love from this series. 😅

It has rough edges. Longer sessions can expose the repetition, some animations feel dated, and parts of the story take their time. But the characters, personality and overall adventure kept me invested.

Ishin brings together two things I love: samurai storytelling and the unmistakable energy of Like a Dragon.

Which matters most to you in a samurai game: the swordplay, the story or the freedom to explore? 👇

Heat 2 has me thinking about the standard it has to live up to. 🎬

HEAT (1995) — 9.5/10 | OUTSTANDING

The conversation around Heat 2 brings me back to my verdict on Michael Mann's original.

De Niro and Pacino make the tension feel personal. The diner confrontation barely needs movement to hold my attention, while the downtown shootout delivers the scale and intensity I want from a crime thriller.

What stays with me is the cost of that obsession: the lives and relationships pushed aside by people who cannot walk away from what they do.

The length and a few side stories slow things down. Even so, the performances, atmosphere and tension make this exceptional cinema for me.

Which stays with you longer: the diner scene or the shootout? 👇

Rise of the Ronin · ⭐ 9/10 · Skillful swordplay, varied weapons and an atmospheric Japanese setting make Rise of the Ronin a compelling adventure. Its story choices and exploration kept me engaged. Some repetitive side quests and a demanding combat learning curve remain, but the overall journey is richly rewarding. ·

Family Guy · ⭐ 7/10 · Bold satire, iconic voices and the chemistry between Stewie and Brian keep Family Guy memorable. Its best jokes and musical moments still deliver. Repetitive cutaways, dated humour and uneven later seasons make it inconsistent, but its influence on adult animation is undeniable. ·

Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice · ⭐ 9.5/10 · Precision, patience and mastery define Sekiro. Its posture system turns sword combat into a thrilling test of timing, backed by atmospheric environments and a powerful soundtrack. The steep learning curve and limited role-playing options will not suit everyone, but the challenge is deeply rewarding. ·

Rurouni Kenshin — 1996 series · ⭐ 9/10 · Kenshin’s struggle for redemption gives every sword fight emotional weight. Memorable characters, powerful music and the outstanding Kyoto Arc make this a timeless samurai classic. Later filler, uneven pacing and some animation inconsistencies hold it back, but its heart and ideals still resonate. ·
